Christine Moores

May 19, 1947 to March 14, 2018

Obituary

Peacefully, on March 14, 2018, with her family at her side, in her own home. Loving wife of Douglas, beloved mother of Gregory (Julie), Ian (Linda), Beth (Matthew). Adoring and devoted “Nan” to Sara, Lauren, Roland, Victor and Hillary Christine. Dear daughter of Arthur & Beatrice Cramm and daughter-in-law of Alec & Maysie Moores. Sister of Barbara (Richard) and Edgar (Karen). Sister-in-law of Darroch (Nancy) and David (Norma). Kind Aunt to her nieces and nephews, Janna, Carl, Andrew, Neal, Craig, Joanne, Paul and Gail. Also, many kind and caring friends and other family members will miss and fondly remember Chris.

Chris met Douglas in July, 1967 and from then to now, over 50 years, they shared a wonderful and happy life together. Their children and grandchildren brought immense joy and happiness to Chris. She was always a source of guidance and support to her family through her life. As the family shared many special occasions over the years, Chris, as Mother and Nan, was the fulcrum around which those events rotated.

Chris attended Acadia University and graduated from Memorial and Dalhousie Universities. She taught school for a brief period before she began her family. She was very active in her community in various organizations and youth groups. She was a founding member of the CBN Figure Skating Club, President of the NL Figure Skating Association and a Director of Skate Canada. Chris was a very creative person and had real flair for doing things in unique ways. She loved making cards for special occasions for her family and friends and took great pleasure in assembling her own beautiful scrapbooks – she spent many happy hours doing so. “The Paperie” store, which she started with her niece Janna, provided many of her friends with an opportunity to create their own special memories. Chris loved to entertain her family and friends, both at home and at Ocean Pond, and made sure that nothing was left undone to ensure the success of those occasions.

From very early in their marriage, and often with their children, Chris & Doug travelled to many different parts of the world. Chris was adventurous, and she truly loved to see and explore new places. From the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, to the Great Wall of China and the Western Wall of Jerusalem, along with numerous stops in between, they journeyed and were very happy doing so. However, her two favourite places on earth were Hilton Head Island, in South Carolina, and the family’s cabin at Ocean Pond. All the times she spent there with her family and friends brought Chris great joy and contentment.

Chris was a remarkable woman and possessed a beautiful spirit. She was dedicated and devoted to her family. She was a kind, caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a true and loyal friend to those whom she met on the road of her life.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude and thanks to their many friends who were so kind and considerate to Chris during her illness. Donations in her memory may be made to the H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation, 300 Prince Philip Dr., St. John’s, NL, A1B 3V6, or online at cancercarefoundation.nf.ca. Visitation to be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, Freshwater Road on Thursday, March 15 from 2:00 – 5:00 and 7:00 – 9:00, and Friday, March 16 from 2:00 – 5:00 and 7:00 – 9:00. Funeral to be held at Wesley United Church, Patrick Street, on Saturday, March 17, at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Parish Hall.

“I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the way,
of happy times and laughing
times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who
grieve, to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave.
When life is done.”

Please accept my sincere condolences on Chris’ passing.
Growing up in Hr. Grace, I was in awe of Chris and had so much respect for her. She loved you dearly and put her whole life into raising her kids well.
She was such a role model for us all. I loved her spirit- so generous, open and uplifting. She volunteered her time on many, many projects and even taught my friends and I how to curl up at the Hr. Grace Curling club.
Her obituary only begins to capture what an amazing woman she was for words cannot fully describe her. She touched the lives of so many people and we are all richer for having known her. RIP

Doug and Family,
I was very saddened to hear of Chris’s passing. Chris was a very special woman with a huge heart and captivating smile. Throughout the many years we volunteered together in the skating community Chris taught me much about leadership with her “we can and we will” attitude, creative energy and strong work ethic . She was an inspiration to many. I am deeply grateful for our friendship and the wonderful memories we created. Unfortunately, I am unable to be in St. John’s for Chris’s memorial but my thoughts and prayers are with you. With heartfelt condolences.

Doug and families,Ed,Barbara and families,
I was so saddened to hear of Chris’s passing. We were friends growing up in Grand Falls.I always remember her zest for life and those dimples when she smiled. Her obituary certainly sums up who she was,and the joy she experienced being a mom and a nan.May God Bless you as you grieve and as you relive the beautiful memories you have of her.

Doug, Greg, Ian, Beth and Families,
I was saddened to read of Chris’s passing. As you know we not only skated together on the infamous CBN Ice Buckets, but Chris held me up and instigated my ability to turn (with her friendly but firm push on my shoulder and then a quick pull to catch me and bring me around!), but it was Chris who encouraged me to get involved at the Section level with Skate Canada NL and through Chris, I met many life-long friends, including Norma. Chris “had a way” and a special touch and flare to everything she did and her presence just made you feel comfortable and appreciated. She was a real team player, a leader, and I know her favourite role in life was being Nan. I’m sorry her infectious smiile won’t be seen, but rest assured, it and she will be remembered. May those wonderful, happy memories help you all get through this sad time. I am unable to attend Chris’s memorial in person but please know you are all in my thoughts.

Doug, so sorry for the loss to you, family and extended members of your family. As we age, this all too often is seemingly the norm. But with aging comes the opportunity to form the ties that bind us together forever, as we go forward in life. No words could ever express the loss of a mother, wife or loved one. But in memories Chris will live on forever. May you and yours find strength and support in each other. May God’s blessings be upon you all, now and always. Love Paul, Wendy & family.

Doug,Greg,Ian,Beth and family. Sorry to hear of your loss. Thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Mr. Moores, Ian, Greg & Beth,
How do I say good-bye to such a wonderful person. Mrs. Moores was very kind and loving and always made me feel welcome, whether it was on Alberta Drive or at Ocean Pond, she would give you such a warm feeling. Her contagious smile could light up any room she entered and to say she was a good cook was truly an understatement.
I hope you all have inherited at least one of her good qualities and if so you will be truly blessed by it.
Mrs. Moores, I can only hope that now you have eternal rest and that you have the very best of what heaven has to offer. May God bless you.
Neil.

My heartfelt sympathy to Doug, Greg, Ian, Beth and your families. Chris was an amazing lady whose intelligence and dignity was evident in all her undertakings.
Chris was a builder always inspiring those working with her to exceed their own expectations. She set the bar high and as true leader she was undaunted by obstacles and tackled everything with a “can do” attitude. It was never about her but the experience she gave to others.
Many lives are richer for having known Chris. I, for one, am proud to have called her friend.

We have so many lovely memories of Chris.
