Obituary

Passed peacefully away on Saturday, January 7, Cyril Power, aged 92 years.  Cyril has gone to join his loving wife of 62 years, Marie (Bindon).  Leaving to mourn children David (Bonny), Robert (Dave Philpott), and Maureen (Herb) Sexton; grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Wiesen, Valerie Power, and Kate Sexton; great-grandchildren Emma, Thomas and Quinn Wiesen;  Brothers Bill (Geraldine) Power, John (Carmel) Power, Gerald (Carmel) Power, Robert (Anna) Power; sister Dot Power; Nieces and nephews Margaret Ann (Beehan) and Paul Power; Betty (Davidson), Pat (Hartery), Bill and Mike McCann; Michelle (Stevenson), Lisa (Mackey), Keith and Glenn Power; Janet (Whitehorn), Ronnie, Brian, Howie, Barry and Glenn Field; and Greg and Roberta Power. Marie’s family played a great part in Cyril’s life, including sisters-in-law Louise Doyle and Winnie Carew; nieces and nephews Jim Carew and Maria Reynolds; Wynanne Bindon, Jim Bindon and Tom Bindon; Maureen McCarthy and Alan Doyle.   Predeceased by his parents William and Elizabeth Power; sisters Helen McCann, Kay Field and Molly Power; brothers-in-law Mike McCann, Hal Field, Tom Bindon, Jimmy Bindon, Andrew Bindon, John Bindon, Joseph Doyle and Jim Carew; and nephew Tom Doyle.  Also leaving to mourn a wide circle of extended family and friends.  A special thank you to the exceptional caregivers on the 8th Floor at Tiffany Village who treated Cyril like one of their family.  Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from the Basilica of St. John The Baptist at 9:30 a.m.  Interment to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association.

Sincere condolences to the Power and Bindon families. I had the pleasure of working with Cyril for a short time at the Daily News and playing on its hockey team on which he was the standout player. He was clearly the best hockey player of his day and was always honoured for his quiet and unassuming manner.
