Obituary

****DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE EVENING VISITATION FOR MR. BOONE HAS BEEN CANCELLED.****

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Eric Boone after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by parents Walter and Jean Boone, brothers Walter and Otto and sister Elizabeth (Dollie) LeDrew, sisters-in-law Beverley Larder and Olive Boone, brothers-in-law Fraser Rowe and Dennis Riche.

Leaving with treasured memories his project and dance partner of 52 years Linda Boone, daughters Kerry Collins (John) and Dana Boone; granddaughter Jada Collins; brother Doug Boone (Ontario); sisters Carol Rowe, Phyllis Riche (Aubrey Brenton), Rosalyn Boone (John Landrigan); brothers-in-law Ivan LeDrew and Derrick Atwill (Gloria Taylor); sister-in-law Doreen Cahill Boone (Ontario); as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He will be sadly missed by the hunting buddies Dick, Ken, Max, Glen, Bill and Doug when they visit their hunting cabin on South West Gander River; all his friends at Bell Aliant Pioneers especially the lunch guys; the Mercers and Smiths on Wednesday nights; his long-standing poker buddies from Bell Aliant; his friends from the Cochrane Street United Church Men’s group, especially his breakfast buddies Bob Mercer and Gerry Penney; as well as the Couples Bridge Group.

Dave was never one to sit and do nothing, and was happiest on “The Land” at his summer home on the Hodgewater Line, puttering around in his garage, attending to his flowers or cooking cod tongues and britches – a treat for Jada, John and himself.

Dave had nothing but praise for the many doctors and nurses he encountered at the Health Sciences Centre, Eastern Health Cordage Place and Major’s Path. He so appreciated the care of Dr. Armstrong, Dr. Toms, Dr. Duffy and many others during his many treatments, surgeries and hospital stays.

Cremation has taken place. Following COVID-19 restrictions, the family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd., on Wednesday, January 20th and on Thursday, January 21st from 2PM-4PM & 7PM-9PM. An inurnment will take place on Friday, January 22nd at 1PM from Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Doctor H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. Arrangements have been entrusted to Carnell’s Funeral Home. To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.carnells.com

Linda, Kerry, Dana, Derrick and Family-I’ll always remember Dave for 3 things. His strength was the first thing that jumped out at me as a young man. Dave was a solid as a rock. Another, far more important quality was his kindness. From the time I was a young man, and as I grew, even though I would only see Dave every couple of years (It has now been many years since I last saw Dave), he always treated me with the utmost kindness and respect. He made me feel welcomed and important. What a gift! The final lasting impression of Dave was his attitude, he always seemed happy and made those around him happy, including me! He always had that big smile. I was blessed to know Dave from a very young age and will always carry wonderful memories of him with me. I will be thinking of and praying for Dave, and for your healing during this time.
Love to you all-

Cousin Bruce
