Obituary
Passed peacefully away at the Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit on September 11, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Pre-deceased by his parents George and Flora Walsh, and his sister Carol Ann Brancato. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Helen (nee Cole), daughters Kim (Bob) and Lynn Ann (Billy), grandchildren Charles (Ida) and Chloe (Ben), his precious great grandson Sean Charles as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Don retired from Pitney Bowes Canada, had a lifelong involvement in the hockey community, was a well-known member of the legal community, a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and an avid golfer with a very close-knit foursome.
Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Service will be held at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 9:30 am, with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Field of Honour. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #1, Blackmarsh Road. Following the interment a reception will be held at The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #1 on Blackmarsh Road.

To the entire family of Don, please accept my condolences with his passing. I may not have met any of you over the years but I was involved with hockey his the 70’s. I have to say Don was one of the best officials I knew, he was consistent and fair. On a couple of occasions we traveled together to Clarenville, he went to referee and I as the St. John’s Junior League rep we both enjoyed it and over the years we spoke of it as we met later at the Memorial Stadium or Mile One. He was one who always spoke and had a smile along with a story. God Bless him and your entire family.
First met Don at a golf tournament in Stephenville about 50 years ago. Because of distance only saw him occasionally but whenever we did . it was always a pleasant. enjoyable time. Last saw him at O’riellys having lunch before working an Icecaps game. Don was very highly regarded as a Referee also and was always Fair to everyone. Helen and Family. please accept my sincere condolences on your loss.

To Don’s Family
I met Donny 12 years ago through The Royal Canadian Legion. He was Mr. Br. #56 to me. Over that time we met several times at all kinds of Legion events. He was a great source of information and help for the branch and command.. He was a true friend to me and Br. #33 Placentia. May he rest in peace. We Will Remember Him.
We are so sorry to hear of Don‘s passing.
I remember spending many times around Don and my father who were really good buddies over the years. As the years went on, I remember running into Don on many occasions and he was always such a fine gentleman who had a good heart and was always ready for a good laugh.
Hopefully the boys get a chance to share some wonderful times again.

Condolences to the Walsh family on the passing of Don. I have know Don for over 40 years and he was a true gentleman and friend. As a linesman in the old Senior Hockey League he was the Referee of my 1st game and always treated everyone fair. He always had a good joke and Purity Barrel candy was his favorite.

My wish for the Walsh family is that they celebrate Don’s life while he lived among us on this earth and the many contributions he shared. with so many.
May the Sacred Heart Of Jesus shine upon his soul and may he R.I.P.
My sincere condolences to the Walsh family on the Don’s passing. He was a good friend for the many years I had known him. We shared some great memories both on and off the ice when refereeing and on the golf course when the opportunity arose. His smile, his laugh, his jokes and his supply of “Purity Barrels” will be missed.
We where saddened to hear of Don’s passing. He was a wonderful man with a big heart. He made so many contributions to his community and a cherished member of The Royal Canadian Legion. Don, was a part of the honour guard at my Dad’s funeral and I was so proud when he folded my Dad’s flag and presented it to me.. It gave my family great comfort as it will yours when Don is honoured by his comrades. Our sincere condolences to Helen, Lynn Ann, Kim, Charles, Chloe and family. Love to you during this difficult time.

What a great man, funny, kind, generous, and special. We will always remember the wonderful hospitality Helen and Don would show us when we came to visit. We will miss his smile and of course those fabulous bloody caesar’s he would make us.

My sincerest condolences on the passing of Don. Although we haven’t been close for a few years, we spent a lot of happy times together and he was a great friend for many years.
