Dorcas Noel (nee Pope)

November 14, 1925 to December 27, 2020


Passed away at her home in Mount Pearl on Dec. 27, 2020, Dorcas Noel, age 95 years. Predeceased by her parents Leslie and Esther Mary Pope (Riggs), son John, husband Reginald A., siblings George Pope (Fanny), and Lottie Bond (Johnny).

Leaving to mourn her daughter Patricia (Jeff Young-deceased, his sons Paul (Joanna), and John (Alma) and their children); son Keith A. Noel (Petra), grandson S. Anderson Noel (Sheilagh Murphy, daughter Bridget) and granddaughter Steff Davis (Shannon) in Ottawa.  Also leaving to mourn many nieces and nephews and their families, especially nieces Eileen Butt and Joan Pope; and many close friends including her friend’s daughters Paula and Dolores Vaughan; and excellent neighbours including long time neighbour Cindy Bartlett.

Dorcas was born and raised in Stone’s Cove Fortune Bay, moved to St. John’s in the 1940s and worked at Queen’s College.  She married Reg from Harbour Grace, raised her family in St. John’s and attended the Anglican Cathedral where she participated in a number of organizations over the years.

Due to COVID-19, there will be no public visitation.  Funeral Service for family and close friends only will be held at the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020.  Family and friends who wish to attend must pre-register for this service at the Cathedral.  Please visit the Cathedral homepage at for information and safety requirements.  Click on the link where it says: “Please Click Here to Register for Public Worship at the Cathedral”.  Registration closes at 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Flowers are gratefully accepted, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist  or the charity of one’s choice

My condolences to the family, Dorcas was my mother’s (Janet Handrigan) first cousin.

My condolences Steff & family. You have so many wonderful memories to celebrate her life. Dorcas will live on in the hearts of her children and their children.

Being much younger, I did not get to know Dorcas well; last meeting was in Halifax. My sister, Eleanor knew her better. As a cousin, it certainly represents a loss, and I know that she will be missed.

Bob and I are so sorry to learn of the passing of our wonderful aunt. I have fond memories of many visits with Aunt Dorcas and Uncle Reg. They were always so welcoming and warm and genuinely interested in everything.. Aunt Dorcas was an excellent cook and hostess., so proud of her lovely home and so happy to share her delicious cooking and baking!
