It is with deepest sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Wm. Penney Jr. at the age of 61. Doug was loved and respected by all who knew him, and a good friend to anyone and everyone – he was always there with a smile, to lend a hand to anyone in need. Family was very important to Doug. The love of his life, Laurie Ann, and his beautiful fur baby, Chloe were very near and dear to him. Doug loved his work. He was a man of principle and believed strongly in working hard and doing a good job. He was a member of the Harvey’s Home Heating team for 42 years and had great respect for staff within the Harvey group of companies. So shocked to hear of Dougies sudden passing. I have many fond memories of Dougie at her house on Mercers lane growing up. Dougie always had such an infectious smile and jolly nature , and such a great friend to my parents Vince and Brenda Dwyer. We always loved seeing Dougies truck pulling into our driveway, as he would always bring a treat of some sort, or tell us a good joke or story and give us a chuckle. He treated everyone the same young or old, and was the most kind hearted man I ever met. He will be deeply missed by a great many that knew him. I am grateful to have been in his company. My heartfelt sympathies to all the family on such a hard year of laying to rest so many of your dear loved ones. Thoughts, prayers and hugs to you all. RIP Dougie

Condolences to the Penney family. Very saddened to hear of Dougie’s passing. I first met Dougie at the age of 10 when he was a cub leader at St. Teresa’s.
Dougie ended up being a neighbour of my parents in our family home. My parents, now deceased, spoke very highly of Dougie and often commented how he was always there to give a hand or help out with whatever was needed.
He continued to do this even this fall with my sister with trimming over grown trees. and cleaning up leaves.
He truly was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all.
May you Rest In Peace Dougie.

It was indeed sad to learn that Doug had passed so suddenly. It only seems like yesterday that he would stop by the Knights Of Columbus building with a handful of cookies for the coffee crowd and join us in a few yarns.

My Condolences to his family and may his soul R.IP.

Too say we were shocked and saddened to hear of Doug’s passing would be an understatement. When I started at Harvey & Company 30 years ago Doug Sr. and Dougie were one of the first customers I ever came to know. Over the years Doug and the entire Penney family have become much more than just customers. Doug was always good with a yarn and a joke and never got terribly upset about much, he was a joy to see come in the shop. Alex, Jerry, Doug Sr. and Laurie Ann our hearts here at Harvey & Company are broken. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time. Rest In peace my friend, you will be sadly missed by all of us here at Harvey & Company.

I am saddened and shocked to hear of Dougie’s passing. All my memories of him include him wearing a big smile and offering kind words.. I recently had a conversation with my dad (David Escott) in the last year about what a good guy Dougie was, he would be deeply saddened by this loss. My thoughts are with you Laurie Ann and all the Penney family., especially Uncle Doug. xo

So sorry to hear of Doug.s passing. Sincere condolenses to to All the Penny and Taylor Famly.

Doug and I were friends for over 40 years. He was always proud to call himself an “oil man.” He was also a family man, and a kind man with a big presence and a bigger heart. His eyes would light up whenever he spoke of his beloved Laurie Ann and “the little dog.” I will surely miss our long gabs that always ended with “well Billie, it is what it is.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Laurie Ann, and the Penney and Taylor families. Time heals all.
Rest easy friend.

Such a shock yesterday to hear. I only knew Doug from our yarns as he delivered oil in our area. He always had a smile on and we could talk about most things. Truly missed but not forgotten.

Laurie Ann / Penny family . I am so sorry to hear of Doug’s passing . I’ve had the pleasure of working with Doug for the passed 6 years and Doug would call to let me know that he had my late mother in law all looked after when she was living on Patrick St . Also Doug would call to give the latest news on NL politics . Doug will be greatly missed may he rest in peace .

I am so sorry to hear of Dougie’s passing this week. Growing up in the Mundy Pond area ,our paths often crossed. Back in January, while attending his brother Barry’s funeral service we had a great chat and reminisced about old days, softball, dances and my mother’s passing. He will be missed by all who loved him dearly.

I was shocked to hear of Doug’s passing; it was only in January that his brother Barry passed. So sad, he was such a gentle man.

My condolences to the family. While I didn’t have the privilege of knowing him personally, he was such a friendly and pleasant man, who was so gracious about my frequent apologies for the mess I’d often left in the path to my oil tank. I now have a beautiful photograph of Mr Penney and his beloved Chloe in my garden. Such a lovely man; I am so very sorry for your loss.

Laurie Ann , Doug Sr, Beverly, Sandra, Alex Gerry & Penney family . We are deverstated to hear of Dougie’s passing . He was a great friend and was always a pleasure to be around..
We have many memories of Dougie and will treasure them dearly. May your memories of him give you the strength you need to help you all though this difficult time . Our prayers and thoughts are with you all at this time. RIP our friend you will never be forgotten ❤️

My heart goes out to Laurie Anne and all the Penney and Taylor families. Doug was one of my “boys” for many years. We worked well together and were the best of friends. He will be missed dearly by everyone he knew, family, co-workers, customers and most especially Laurie Anne and Chloe. The void he leaves behind is bigger than the man he was. I will miss our lengthy conversations and his many many stories. The world lost a good man. RIP my friend
