Obituary
Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Born on Monday, June 10, 1935 in St. Johns, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Winnifred (nee Duff) Stapleton. Beside her parents Elizabeth was predeceased by daughter Brenda Butler. Leaving to mourn with loving and precious memories are her husband Raymond; daughters Patsy (Gerard Ryan), Janet (Robert Kinsella), Juanita (Kenneth Meyers); son, Alan (Margaret); grandchildren Brenda, Rick, Melissa, Natasha, Mark, Shane, Wesley, Daniel-Alan; great-grandchildren Joshua, Emma, Nathan, Charlie, Issac, Hudson, Sophie, Owen, Kaydan and brothers George (Delores), Peter (Eleanor), Art (Betty), Tom (Judy). Cremation has taken place. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, located at 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 10:00 am – 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Family Catholic Parish Church, located at 69 St. Thomas Line on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 10:00 am. In lieu of floral donations, donation to a charity of donor’s choice greatly appreciated. A special note of thanks to the doctors and staff of the Health Science Centre Emergency Department and 5 North A for their exceptional empathy and compassion during our families very difficult time.

My deepest condolences to Mrs Butler’s family. I had the privilege of being her student for Grades 2,3 and 4. I have wonderful memories of those early years of school and of growing up in Immaculate Conception School. She was a fabulous role model throughout her life.

I was saddened to hear of Elizabeth’s passing. Many years ago she was my teacher at Immaculate Conception School in St. Thomas and I have many fond memories of her in that role. She touched many lives as a teacher and I’m sure that there are many former students, like me, reflecting back on the lessons we learned from Miss Butler.
So sorry for your loss. I have such fond memories of your mom from our visit to Newfoundland. She was so welcoming and kind. Find strength in all your precious memories.

I was surprised and very sad when I saw the recent obituary for Mrs. Butler. Mrs. Butler was like a member of our family. We were very close to Elizabeth and Ray…… Mom (the late Anne Lawlor and Dad (the late Leo Lawlor) I will fondly remember my teacher for grades 3 and 6. I am so very sad to hear this news today and on behalf of my husband Paul and myself please accept our deepest condolences. Sending prayers and hugs to you all during this very, very difficult time.
