Obituary

Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Complex May 5, 2017 in his 89th year, ERIC PALMER ADAMS.  Eric and his brother Fred owned and operated Adams Service Station on Pennywell Road in St. John’s for many years. He was a former member of the Newfoundland Ranger Force and a Veteran of the US Air Force. He was a kind and gentle man who had an amazing memory and recollection of life in St. John’s through the 20th century.  He maintained his interest in current affairs and had a great zest for life until the end.  He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Randell), in 1997, his parents, James Palmer and Mary Adams and his siblings Charles R. (Veronica) Adams, business partner and best friend Frederick G. (Ella and Mary), the Honourable Willian G. Adams and Joan V. (James R.) Arklie.  Leaving with fond and loving memories his sister-in-law, Eve Adams, and brother in law Ross Randell; Fred’s children Charles (Isabel), special nephew,  John (Linda) who not only worked with Eric for over 30 years but also became a close friend and buddy in Eric’s later years, Joan (Dave) Best, James (Susan) and Mary Chancey (Jerdon Collins); Charles’ children, Harry (Judy), Veronica (Stephen) Walker and Andrew(Elizabeth); and Marjorie’s nieces Corinne Randell-Wentzle (Tony) and Beverly (Derrick) Harty; as well as many great nieces and nephews who loved him dearly, and many friends, including those at the Cambridge Estates.  Cremation has taken place.  Visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. on Monday, May 8, 2017    from 2 to 9 PM.  Funeral service Carnell’s Chapel on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11 AM with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road.   Uncle Eric loved his home at the Cambridge Estates and wanted to thank the staff and Dr. Singleton for their dedicated care as well as Drs. Bohacek, Kenny and the many doctors, nurses and staff of the Intensive Care Unit at the Health Sciences Complex.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Eric’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

We were saddened to hear of your uncle Eric’s passing. We always enjoyed his company and thought of him as our uncle as well! He was a man who had an enormous personality who became a friend to everybody he met. The world today is a lesser place without him.Please accept our most sincere sympathy on your loss.

Our family (Wyatt’s) were neighbours on Pennywell Rd. I have very fond memories of Eric. He was such a gentle man and was very kind to us children. He always had such a fabulous smile . I shall never forget him. RIP.

We knew all the Adams family. We were next door neighbours on Pennywell Road. growing up. Our sincere sympathy to the family on the loss of Eric.. He was such a kind man.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Great Uncle Eric. I have many fond memories of him over the years at Adams’ Service Station, the many family gatherings and the odd Saturday afternoon at Leo’s. He will be dearly missed.
