Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother in law and uncle.  Gilbert passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit, after a short battle with cancer on Tuesday November 26, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.  Predeceased by his parents Archibald and Esther Stevens; sisters Violet and Edina; brothers Arch (Bertha), Fred (Rita), Alex, Eric and Lew; and son in law Patrick Pearcey.

Leaving to mourn the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Shirley (nee Tremblett); children: Karen (Roy Morgan), Debbie, Gilbert (Kathy), Craig (Lisa), Denise (Rick Petten), Darlene (Steve Moores) and Dianne (Robert Dinn); grandchildren: Amanda (Ryan Abbott), Stephanie Stevens, Michael Stevens (Victoria), Steven Pearcey (Melanie), Courtney Stevens (Andrew), Ryan Pearcey, Chelsey Stevens (Ben), Jason Morgan, Nathan Petten, Emily Stevens, Gillian Petten and Holly Newhook; great grandchildren: Charlotte Stevens, Hannah Stevens, Jake Abbott, Avery Penfold and Harper Penfold; sisters Mary (Lew Noseworthy) and Florence Stevens; brothers Charlie (Clara) and Levi; and sisters in law: Marie, Pauline and Sharon; also, a number of friends and other relatives.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to Doctor and friend Robert Woodland for his care and compassion.

The family will accept visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Friday November 29 from 10- 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday November 30 from the Carnell Memorial Chapel at 10:00 a.m. No Flowers by request. Donations in Gilbert’s name may be made to The War Amps.

Shirley, just a note to you and all the family that I Shirley I would like to say that iam sorry for your loss ,its been forty years since I left Groves Road ,and ive never forgotten how kind both you and Gil were to me ,from rides to school and horse rides to just being there if the Gosse family got in trouble and when my mom died and I came home ill never forget your kindness. wish I was there to give you all a hug and let you know I love you all.
