Glenn Clayton Greening

November 3, 1947 to August 5, 2019

Obituary

With heavy hearts our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. With his witty humour, positive attitude and determined (but sometimes stubborn) spirit, Glenn successfully fought cancer for seven years, but now he need not fight anymore. Our profound sadness is eased knowing that he is reunited with our precious Blair; his parents Rex and Nellie Greening; nephew Sam Blagdon; sisters Rexine, Pats and Geneva and brothers-in-law Lloyd Melindy and Ted Caines (buddy and personal wine maker). Left with precious memories are his wife Martha (nee Blackwood); son Shayne (Michelle), daughters Robyn Hipditch (Mike) and Jacqueline Stanford (Greg); grandson Ashton; and granddaughters Kendra, Brooke, Lauren, Shaelyn and Janielle; sisters Donna Rae Furlong (Paul), Joan Boddez (Gordon), Lynn Perry (Eric) and Kay Barbour (Jesse); numerous Blackwood in-laws and a very large circle of friends. Special thanks are extended to the medical staff at the Health Sciences Centre Ambulatory Treatment Unit and 4 North A. Heartfelt gratitude is extended to Dr. Joanne MacIntyre for her superb treatment, compassion and special friendship. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday, August 7th, 6-9 pm and Thursday, August 8th, 2-9 pm. Celebration of life will take place from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Friday, August 9th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Glenn’s memory to Myeloma Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice.

To the family,
I had the pleasure of meeting Glenn only a few times when I represented the Buyers who purchased his Florida condo. He was such a pleasant man who never even showed a sign of the struggles he was facing. My sincere condolences to Martha and his family.

Robin and the Greening family, So sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. I spoke to Glenn in the days of the Fabulous 50’s. Very nice man, I’m sure he will be missed.
May God Bless

To Glenn’s family.
I met Glenn in the early 80’s. Politics of course ! I always enjoyed his wit and humour. Glenn cared deeply about his family and friends, and all his constituents. He will certainly be missed.

Hello Martha and family,
So deeply saddened to hear of Glenn’s passing. He was such a nice man. He always looked out for me when we were Florida neighbors. I remember I was scared to go up into the attic in my condo and he brought over a ladder, crawled up there and looked all around and assured me that it was empty and not to worry! What a gentleman. I will always admire his witty humor. We shared many laughs about US politicians and life situations. And oh how he loved your lemon pie!!! You are close to my heart during this difficult time. Angela Rothen

Greening Family. Please accept my sincere condolences on Glen’s passing. I met Glen many year ago when I joined the fire dept in St. John’s. In fact we rented an apartment from Glen. Over the years we would meet each other through my career and always had a good chat. RIP Glen

Martha, Shayne and Robyn….so sorry to hear of Your loss. Glen was always a fun silly soul that I remember from such a young age. He called me junior – I never knew why but it was always his name for me. My kids got to know him from going to the coffee shop with pop, and like me they spoke of him with a smile and a giggle. I’m sure his loss will be felt my so many. In the words of Winnie the Pooh – how lucky are you to have had someone that makes saying goodbye so hard .

To the Greening family, I am so sorry to learn of Glenn’s passing. When I first met Glenn, he owned the Fabulous 50’s on Duckworth and I was his account Rep at the radio station. Glenn was always nice to me and I respected his decisions in running his business and he respected my efforts in looking after his advertising. The first time he advertised with me was when he said- “you put Lost in the 50`s tonight in the commercial and I`ll go on the air and advertise the club. I did it and he was good to his word. That was 34 years ago and to this day, we always said hello to each other at Tim`s on Topsail and talked about life.
A great guy will be missed. RIP Glenn, you were a true gentleman! next time you hear that song- Think of Glenn.

Martha, Shayne, Robin, Jacqueline and families,
