Michelle, Sydney, Catherine and family
Please accept my sincere condolences and prayerful support at the loss of your husband and father. He was a great man with a strong sense of compassion for his fellow man. I had the privilege of working with Harold over the past four years as we shared to together in the development of The Salvation Army Ches Penney Centre of Hope in downtown St. John’s. He was definitely an advocate for the marginalized of our community. Our community’s loss, however, does not near the your personal loss. I leave you with this Scripture verse for comfort….”So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

We are deeply saddened over Harold’s sudden passing.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Harold’s sudden passing. He and I worked together at the Viking Building years ago. He was such a well-respected, hard working social worker. Like me, Harold loved his family – and cars! I have a lovely picture of us, chatting up a storm at a VW event at Bowering Park a few years back. A sweet, kind soul, that was Harold. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Michelle and family
So saddened to hear of Harold’s passing. We had many discussions over the years and he was a wonderful caring social worker. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Michelle, Syd, Catherine and members of the Guzzwell and Greene families. I am deeply sorry to hear of Harold’s sudden passing.
I met Harold when I began working in the Public Service and we became good friends. As a Social Worker , Harold was the ultimate professional who served the most vulnerable in our society with kindness and compassion. For Harold Social Work was a vocation and he had a remarkable gift for navigating the bureaucracy to ensure everyone received the help they needed. He came to work early and left late, an example of the Public Servant we all aspired to be. He was so funny. He always had a joke or story and a multitude of seasonal gadgets to entertain his unsuspecting colleagues.
As a friend, Harold was the best. He was a connector who shared his friendship with me and I am a better person for it. We had so many cups of tea and hearty laughs together, times I will forever treasure.
But, it was as a husband and father that Harold shined the brightest. He loved you, Michelle with every fibre of his being and described you as the most beautiful, intelligent, compassionate, brave woman he knew. Syd and Catherine, you were his everything. He was so proud of your accomplishments and was excited to see what you would achieve with your own intellect , kindness and compassion. Treasure your beautiful memories and know that Harold’s star will continue to shine through everyone he touched. He was the best!
RIP my beautiful friend.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Harold. Worked with him and he was an amazing person. Always had a laugh whenever you seen him. Deepest condolences to the family.

To Michelle and all the Guzzwell family,
we were shocked and saddened to hear of Harold’s sudden passing. Both of us remember Harold in different ways: Steve remembers him fondly from childhood years, being in the same class in school, and I (Karen) remember Harold from our years of involvement with Church in the World Committee work when he was coordinating Bridges to Hope, the United Church’s emergency food assistance outreach centre. He was indeed a person who cared deeply for others and trying to make the world a better place. We offer our sincere condolences to you and to the extended family, giving thanks for the many blessings received through his life of caring and kindness,
sincerely, (Rev.) Karen and Steve Thorne

I am so sorry to hear of Harold’s passing. He has helped so many during his career as a social worker. Please know I am thinking of the Guzzwell family at this difficult time.

Michelle, Catherine and Sydney, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Harold’s passing.. He was a wonderful man, and I really loved our guitar lessons – he was passionate about music and he greatly enjoyed sitting down to play a few tunes. He would often stay past his lesson time chatting about everything from politics to classic cars to social work. However his favourite subject without a doubt was his family. He loved you all very much and was very proud of your individual and collective accomplishments. My condolences to you all – I am so sorry you lost Harold at such a young age. He has certainly left behind a positive legacy in his family, and in all the people he touched through a life of community work.

I am so sorry to hear of Harold’s sudden passing. I worked with Harold, my desk right outside of his office door, some years ago. We had daily chats about work, VW campers, and life. He was so kind and giving to everyone who crossed his path, and was always eager to help someone. He loved his family dearly. My thoughts are with you all as you navigate this difficult time and I hope your beautiful memories help to ease the pain.

So sorry for your loss
Michelle, Catherine and Sydney
He is in Gods Arms now and is reunited with his Dad and Mom.
He will be missed for sure.

My sincerest condolences on the loss of Harold. I can only appreciate how devastating his sudden passing has been for you as a family. May you take comfort in all your cherished family memories. I am sure you each have several that are near and dear to each of your hearts.

I was lucky to have met Harold through our work at Regatta Plaza. I feel blessed to have developed a friendship with Harold that grew and continued after I left Regatta Plaza and eventually left St. John’s. Harold always showed genuine interest and care and always had a kind word and always made me smile.

What stands out most about Harold was his love of you. You could tell the value he placed on his family and it was evident that you came first. Harold would light up when he shared stories about each of you and your accomplishments.

God bless and take care and comfort in each other and all the love that is being sent by distance.

Michelle and family,

How deeply sorry and shocked I am to read about Harold’s passing. I hope that you have your friends and family around you and your children to support you as you guys were Harold’s pride and joy.

I worked many years with Harold who always made me smile and showed daily his commitment to our profession. He truly was a grassroots social worker advocating for many causes and all clients he heard of needing services.

Mainly, I will miss his stories and friendship. No matter how long went between us chatting, if I called him, he always tried to help. The true sign of a great friend. May it offer you, Syd and Catherine some comfort to see the outpouring of love from all the friends and co-workers he had.

My thoughts are with you and your family,

To the Guzzwell family,

Harold was a genuine gentleman that wore his passion for others openingly. His logic in his career and to life was greatly admired. I will always cherish our discussions.

Michelle,

I always thought it was a bit quirky that after working with you all these years ago I subsequently came to meet and get to know Harild in more recent years. If I recall correctly (which I don’t necessarily these days) we were in adjacent offices at the Viking Building and our lives kept intersecting at irregular intervals over the ensuing years. He was a genuinely nice guy and as pleasant a coworker as it’s possiblr to imagine. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
