Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and broken souls that the family of Herbert Charles Ivany of St John’s announce his passing, after a quick and brutal battle with that scourge of society, Cancer!

Predeceased by his father Herbert, mother Louise, brothers Willis and Clarence, and sister Lorraine Horgervorst, as well as his special buddy Paddy who he missed so so much.

Herb leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 61 years Hilda (nee Noseworthy), daughter Barbara Forbes (Sandy) and son Herb (Karen Donovan). Two grandchildren – Melody Forbes and Spencer Ivany, who he found so much pleasure and pride in and loved so dearly, they were the music for his soul. Also, his sisters Ruby Wills (Ralph -deceased) and Alice Collins-Doroshenko (Ontario) and his buddy Happy the beagle and Winky the cat. As well, a small group of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A fiercely proud and independent Corner Boy, a hard working case-hardened man, with a quick wit, razor sharp tongue, always ready for a laugh and a joke. Unique in spirit, a non-conformist, and a keen follower of current events, he will be sorely missed.

As per Dad’s wishes, cremation will take place prior to visitation.  Visitation will take place on Wednesday April 5th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Donations in his memory can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Hilda, Herb and family, Barb and family,
It is with great sadness that I just read of Herb’s untimely passing — we are travelling but I check the Telegram occasionally and just now saw his obituary.
Herb and I worked side by side for fifteen years and I can honestly say I have never had a more pleasant and enjoyable workmate. No matter the circumstances, he was always upbeat and with a smile or wise-crack made things brighter. Though we didn’t maintain much contact over the past few years, hardly a day passes that Thelma and I don’t reference some pleasant memory of Herb. He was a treasure!
Please accept our sincere condolences as you go through the grieving process. Know that, in spite of your loss, time will heal and your future can be filled with wonderful memories of him.

Aunt Hilda, Barb, Herb & families

It is with great sadness & heavy hearts that we send this message to you. We wish we could be with you at this sad time.
We all have so many wonderful memories of Uncle Herb. I especially remember the first time I (Mary Ellen ) met him. He came into the bedroom & put an ice cube in my hand, I didn’t know what to do so I got up & gave it back to him. He was always our favorite Uncle. .
He was a ray of sunshine wherever he went., He always had a joke to tell or a funny story. He had a heart bigger than anyone we have ever known.
Although were are no able to be with today, please know you are in our hearts & prays..
Doug so enjoyed his last visit with Uncle Herb when he went with Mom as well she also so enjoyed her visit.

All our Love & God Bless.

Hilda, Herb Jr. and Barb and families,

I am so sorry for your loss. Herb was such a part of mine and my brothers’ and sister’s growing up. He was always there to help us and Dad with cars, motorcycles, moves. etc. Whatever he could do he did do. And sometimes even if he couldn’t do things he improvised.! He was truly one of a kind, and will not be forgotten.

Mrs. Ivany,
Mark, Craig and I were all very saddened to hear of Mr. Ivany’s passing.
He was a funny and sweet man. Always on the step to say hello and was willing to help us and dad with anything. He was a good soul and I’m sure he will be dearly missed by you all. I think he’s somewhere right now sharing a laugh with Alex.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sitting here thinking of Uncle Herb and remembering a few occasions when it was much needed he made me laugh so hard I cried. I hope the memories of his jokes, stories and his laughter help your hearts become a little lighter over time. Much love to you all .

Rest easy Uncle Herb.

Herb, Barb and families.
Sorry to hear of the passing of your dad so soon after the passing of my own. Your visit to the funeral home and words of support to Mom before and after he passed were deeply appreciated and I can only hope that in the next few days you all feel the comfort of those around you just as we did. Memories go on forever.

Dear Aunt Hilda,Barb and Herbie:

I am deeply saddened to hear of your loss and our loss as a family.

Finding words to cherish our memories is sometimes rather hard when we have such warmth within our heart.

Thinking back through the years i can fondly remember hearing Uncle Herb’s laugh throughout our home, his motorcycle coming down our street or his entertaining way of telling us a few jokes or stories of days gone by.

Although no words can really express my sadness, may the peace that comes from our memories and the strength within our hearts, comfort us together.

My Dearest Uncle Herb.
I will always remember you!

God Bless:
Your Nephew,
Rodney
