Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on December 9, 2017, Iris Costello (nee Coffin), aged 87, of St. John’s. She was the last surviving child of John and Jessie Coffin of King’s Cove, Bonavista Bay, NL. She was predeceased by her husband Ignatius (Nish) in September 2016. Leaving to mourn her devoted nephews and nieces in the Costello family, in particular, Sheila Ryan, Geralyn Costello, Geraldine Kennedy and Cecilia Kenny who cared for her since the passing of her husband. Iris is also fondly remembered by her Coffin family nieces and nephews in the United States and by her dear friend of over 50 years, Alma Moores. A special thank you to the staff of 2 South at St. Patrick’s for the care provided to her since July 2016. As per her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and a private family committal service will be held at the Anglican Cemetery on Forest Road.
So sorry to hear of the passing of Iris. She was a lovely and gracious lady.

To Mrs. Costello’s family and friends,
It was with deep sadness that I heard of the passing of my second mother. I stayed with the Costellos during my last two years of University and my first year of teaching as her cooking was too good to leave. For good measure their home included a Grandmother.
With deepest sympathy.

Our sincere condolences to Iris’s nieces, nephews and extended family. Iris (and her late husband Ignatius) were special friends who visited our Mom & Dad regularly during their last journey (always with Iris’s homemade goodies). We will remember them dearly – true friends that are now reunited.

To Iris’s family and friends
I will miss her quick wit and sense of humour. She cherished her visits with her special nieces and her phone calls with friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
