Isabel Granter (nee Badcock)

March 5, 1933 to April 12, 2020

Obituary

Passed peacefully away on April 12, 2020 at Tiffany Village at 87 years of age. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of beautiful and loving memories her daughters: Janet (Gary) Butler, Kim (Bill) Fanning; grandchildren Chad Butler (Heather), Adam Butler, Lesley Fanning (Adam Pardy), Lindsay Fanning (Tom Kenny); four great-grandchildren Keira, Hanna, Rachel and Taylor; sister Marjorie (Herb) Carruthers; brother David (Marion) Badcock and sister-in-law Edith Badcock. Predeceased by husband Carl Granter; parents Thomas and Florrie Badcock; brothers Elmer (Trixie), Jesse (Mary), Gordon, Hubert and sister Ina Stratton (Bill).

A true matriarch, Isabel drew strength, inspiration and happiness by giving so selflessly of herself and championing the successes of her family from the sidelines. A sharp and acerbic wit, Isabel could size up a room in thirty seconds and whatever views or reflections she had, let’s just say she would never leave you guessing. These little peccadillos underscored a fiercely proud mother and grandmother who lived life on her own terms, with strong moral values and asked nothing in return. Simply stated, Isabel lived life, “Nanny’s Way” and she will live forever through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family expresses its sincere gratitude to all of the healthcare providers at Tiffany Village who were so compassionate and caring with Mom, Thank you! Due to COVID-19, there will be no visitation. In accordance with Mom’s wishes, a cremation has taken place. The Family will gather at a later date to celebrate her life.

To Janet and Kim,

I remember your Mom many years ago when we were kids and your folks were friends of my parents. I remember her being a real character, always laughing about something. She seemed to live life to the fullest, always welcoming; a real sparkle in her eye and a smile on her face.

I don’t think I’ve seen her since Janet and Gary moved away from next door on Riverside Drive, but from all the Stirlings, are thoughts are with you.

Dear Kim, Bill, Lesley and Lindsay,

Dear Kim,
So sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. I’m sending virtual hugs and best wishes that you & family remain healthy and strong at such a difficult time. You & I were grade 4 classmates at Holloway School. I’ve never forgotten your mom’s unconditional kindness and inclusivity by gifting each girl in class with a Spanish dancer badge. I lovingly pinned my pink dressed dancer onto my tunic and felt happy.. People never forget how special they’re made to feel and your Mother touched many lives. I hope you find comfort that your Mother will always live in your heart, stirring laughter and memories that bring joy.

I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of Aunt Isabel. Please accept our condolences and may our prayers help comfort you and hasten the journey of her soul to Heaven.

Dear Janet, Kim, and families,

I’m so sorry to hear about Aunt Isobel. I hope you are all able to find some comfort during this difficult time.

I always thought Aunt Isobel was so glamourous and larger than life. I remember a number of years ago, I did a small favour for her, and was repaid with a lovely lunch. The lunch was very nice, but her company was what made it special. She was so funny and entertaining. I had such a great time with her. So, in my memory, we are having lunch, and she is making me laugh, a lot.

Tonight, we’ll raise a glass to Aunt Isobel, and toast living life with style and voraciousness.

Dear Janet, Kim and families,

It was with sadness that I heard Aunt Isabel had passed, and I am so sorry for the loss you have to endure. I know you will miss her very much.

When we visited her, she was incredibly welcoming and full of life. It was during those visits that she always spoke of you with such pride.

I am certain that her life touched many people who will remember her in different and loving ways.

Janet and Kim so sorry to hear about Your mom our thoughts and prayers are with your families at this difficult time . Please take comfort in all your beautiful memories that will stay with you always

Janet, Kim and family, on behalf of the Carruthers family, I want to say that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. It has been especially difficult not being able to visit your mom in recent weeks. You have lost a dear mother and Marjorie has lost her sister. Life will not be the same. Yet, we are forever grateful that Isabel remained connected to our lives throughout her life. She was part of our childhood memories, our adult journeys and our empty nest experiences. We appreciated her laughter, her family stories and the special spark she added to every occasion. We were continually reminded how she cherished you Janet and Kim as daughters. You were the lights in her life (as were your families) and she felt very much loved. I hope you take comfort in knowing that you were not only daughters but companions, friends, comforters and a great source of pride for your mom throughout her life.

Janet and Kim and families ,

So sorry to hear of your Mom’s death . May she rest peacefully. So May memories from our childhood and all the fun around the Kent’s pond families .
Thinking if you as you grieve and miss your Mom today and always . She will no parent and protect you from the beyond .
