Lloyd Garfield Ash

May 9, 1960 to February 6, 2021

Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, son, brother, and uncle, Lloyd Garfield Ash, on Saturday, February 6, 2021.  Predeceased by his brother Ken, aunt Faye Rowe and father-in-law Bruce Hemmens.  Left with beautiful and lasting memories, his loving wife Karen Hemmens, his two daughters Kaitlin and Rebecca, who were his pride and joy; his parents Don and Sylvia Ash, who were blessed to have had the opportunity to know and raise such a beautiful son; mother-in-law Shirley Hemmens; brothers Peter Ash (Chantal), Robert Ash (Marc); special niece Lauren Ash who adored her Uncle Lloyd and his hugs; as well as his uncles Carl Sparkes (Donna), Byron Sparkes (Sandra), and Glen.  Lloyd leaves behind a large circle of friends who will miss his friendship and company.  Lloyd retired from an over 30-year career with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary where he made lifelong friends who will remember him as an esteemed police officer and dear friend.  Lloyd always made time for gatherings with family and friends and those whom he called buddy.  He saw the best in everyone.  An avid outdoorsman, he made the best of every opportunity to be in a boat or standing at the edge of a pond or river with a fishing rod.  At Lloyd’s request, cremation has taken place.  Visitation was held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday, February 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Logy Bay Rd.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Daffodil Place.

I’m very sad to hear about Lloyd’s passing. He was a wonderful man kind, caring and witty. This past year we had many talks in the garage with a wonderful fire going in the wood stove. He talked about Karen and the kids who he loved dearly. Even though he was sick his thoughts were always about his family. We shared many laughs and tears together. He would do anything for you no matter what it was.
Even though Lloyd may be gone, his memory will live on in all of us forever. I appreciate Lloyd’s friendship and will never forget him.
Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most difficult time.

RET/INSPECTOR RNC

Karen, Rebecca, and Kaitlin.
Sending my sincerest condolences to you and all the family at this difficult time.
Lloyd was an amazing husband and father. He was also an all round compassionate caring friend and neighbour to many. He was so proud of his girls and he beamed whenever he talked about them.
Lloyd fought his battle with cancer the same way he lived his life – with strength, bravery and compassion. Always more worried for those around him.
The last day I saw Lloyd, he drove me to the airport very early in the morning after I visited with the family . He wouldn’t hear of me taking a cab. On the way to the airport I joked about how he drove like he was chasing a criminal and enjoying it and he talked about how he was feeling. I knew if he was talking about it that it was bad but here he was being kind to me while feeling terrible himself. He carried my bags into the terminal and gave me a hug that was longer than the normal goodbye.. It was as if he knew it would be the last one.
Rest at peace Lloyd. You did wonderful things in your journey here on earth and the world is a better place for having you in it. Till we meet again.

Karen and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Lloyd’s passing.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.

My condolences to Lloyds family during this sad time. Lloyd was a true gentleman with an amazing sense of humour. I’m proud to have known and worked with him. He was a great guy who left amazing memories with me. If the world had more people like Lloyd in it, we’d all be in a better place. Rest In Peace buddy. I’m sure your tipping one back .

My deepest sympathies to you and the girls Karen and to the rest of Lloyd’s and your family . He was a great friend and person. As a police officer he left a mark on everyone who encountered him. He never held back, if you asked for advice he gave it regardless if what he said was not really what you wanted to hear but something you needed to hear. RIP Lloyd it is a long deserved rest.

Karen and family so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you at this very difficult time. Take care!

My heart goes out to Lloyd’s family. Probably haven’t seen Lloyd since high school but certainly remember his good looks. May it help you to know there are many who are sharing your sadness of the loss of a very special life. Hugs to you all but especially to Sylvia.

I was saddened to hear of Lloyd’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Lloyd on shift numerous times before he was transferred north and he was missed off the platoon when he left.. He left us much too soon. My deepest condolences to Karen and their family.
