It is with profound sadness that the Wilson/Browne family announce the passing of Marc Conrad Wilson, on January 16th, 2021, at the age of 79 years at his home in St. Philip’s.  Marc will be forever remembered by his wife and love of his life for 34 years, and best friend, Ann Browne; and his children, Marc ‘Junior’ (Marjorie) of Innisville, Ontario and Tammy (Miguel) of Toronto, Ontario.  He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Tyson (deceased), Amelia, Angelina, Amanda, Tamara, Samantha, and William; precious companions, Finlay (his special boy), Willow, Oakley, Marlowe, and Quinn; brother-in-law, Joe (Elaine) Browne; sister-in-law, Valerie Wilson; special friends, Dwayne (Dana), Sarah, Michael, and Ryan Rowe; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends in Ontario and Newfoundland.

Marc is pre-deceased by his father, Robert; mother, Gladys; father-in-law, Eamon Browne; mother-in-law, Amelia (Emma) Browne; and brother, Robert (Bob).

Marc worked at the Toronto Stock Exchange as a professional trader for 52 1/2 years before moving to St. Philip’s, Newfoundland. Marc’s exuberance for his career was evidenced by everyone, both inside and outside the TSX.  Marc’s experiences were various and colourful, just like him. From playing semi-professional hockey, to building beautiful stained glass art, to windsurfing and weightlifting until he was 70, Marc loved to live and love large.  Marc was a true gentleman; generous, hardworking, a doting companion, and loved by everyone fortunate enough to know him.  Marc’s eagerness to live life to the fullest brought him great delight right to the end.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to our dear friends who were ever present and supportive.  A special, heartfelt, thank you to Dr. Frank O’Dea; nurse, Fatima Mansaray; nurse, Rod Abbott; Nurse Practitioner, Denise Cahill; and all of the staff at the Miller Centre and hyperbaric chamber at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s.

Following COVID-19 restrictions, visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, on Tuesday, January 19th, from 2PM to 8PM.  A celebration of life in Marc’s honour will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, January 20th at 11AM by invitation only. If you wish to attend, please contact the family via c67mdr@mun.ca. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed.  Flowers are gratefully accepted or a donation in Marc’s memory can be made to The War Amps or the Health Care Foundation (hyperbaric chamber). I too worked with Smokey at the TSE back in the 80’s. A great guy , always joking around, fun guy to work with. You could leave your order with him and he always would make you look good. He was a mentor and a friend. Rest in Peace Big Man.

Ann,
My heart is heavy as I just now heard the news of your dear husband’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all your family at this very sad time. Sending you much love and comfort.

Sorry to hear about Marc’s passing. I worked beside him on the floor of the TSX in the 80’s. As evidenced by the other comments “Smokey” was always fair and helpful to the younger crew starting in the business. That is a true testament of his character as it was a “dog eat dog” environment at times. Thanks for being that person Smokey. And in a high pressure job we always managed to have a laugh or two or three or four. A decent and fair man with some great stories.

Dear Ann,
I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my long time friend. I can only imagine what you must be feeling. I met Marc at the TSE soon after we both started as post boys. We became instant friends and spent a lot of time together up until my wife Patricia and I moved to Vancouver. Unfortunately time and distance is hard on relationships and much to my dismay we lost touch several years ago however he will be a friend in my heart forever.
Please accept our deepest condolences.

Marc was one of the first traders I met when I started on the trading floor in 1988. Not only did he give me the time of day, which was rare for a new kid starting out, but he continued to be a source of information and encouragement for me for years to come. One of his favorite names for each other was ” Musclehead ” …I laugh just thinking about it now. I loved the guy….as did everyone…..he was awesome….and will be missed !!!

Ann, I was so saddened to hear of your loss. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your husband.

Ann, I am so sorry for your loss. You and Marc supported and loved each other tremendously. May family, friends, and colleagues provide comfort at this time. Gennie.

I am stunned by the news of Marc’s passing. The first person we met when we moved to the county, one who became a true friend. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. You will find comfort in the memories of your life together. I wish I could give you the big hug you need.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Anne I am so sorry for your loss.. to be honest your loss is our loss as well..Smokey was one of a kind..a second father to me. Starting on The TSE Trading Floor was a scary place at first..Smokey took me under his wing and showed me the ropes..I can remember other trading Houses calling for Smokey just to ask his thoughts on the Markets..he had a sense that couldn’t be documented..The world is running out of Characters..Smokey was a character..I really enjoyed our phone conversations with Dave Stephens and Smokey..always on his birthday and random other times when we just needed a pick me up…I will never forget you..

It was always so nice to see him at the many functions at the university (when we could do that). We came to expect to see him with you and got to know him and his caring ways and sense of humour as a result of that. Stay strong! May it comfort you to know you have friends that care about you and your well being.
