Margaret (Meg) Jane G. Macdonald

August 4, 1921 to December 10, 2017

Obituary

Let us celebrate the life of Meg Macdonald (Margaret Jane Gordon Macdonald) August 4, 1921 – December 10, 2017. While Scottish born, her Newfoundland friends bless the day she decided to make her life here – for 52 years. Meg was a community minded and giving person. Her career as a physiotherapist started in London, England during the WW2 Blitz and eventually led her to the Newfoundland and Labrador Sanatorium, the Grace Hospital and St. John’s Home Care. She loved animals and was an active member of the St. John’s SPCA. Meg was interested in other cultures and traveled to India and Africa to experience different ways of life. She was an avid reader, a resolute gardener and a supporter of the arts. Meg felt that her life was blessed by the loving care of family and friends on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. In Meg’s death, we loose her smile, her sense of humour, her laughter and a great friend. Rest in peace, dear Meggles. Cremation has already taken place. No service at Meg’s request.

I volunteered with Meg at the SPCA St.John’s for many years. She was and will be remembered as a true humanitarian. She truly was an inspiration to me and many others. A very kind, gentle woman with a great smile and a better chuckle. I wish I got to have one more chat with my “adopted” grandma. I have many fond memories of her. My condolences to all that share Meg in their hearts.

Thanks so much for letting us know of Meg’s passing. She was indeed a blessing to this province and made a garguntuan contribution. Some mutual friends got together over the weekend and, as we often do, shared stories of Meg, her delightful antics, her storytelling, creative problem solving, kind and caring nature and fierce independence. WE worked together at Home Care … and will keep on sharing the stories!
