Mary Josephine Callahan (nee Perchard)

March 19, 1936 to May 12, 2017

Obituary

Passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by her family that adored her and her extended St. Luke’s family at St. Luke’s Nursing Home on May 12, 2017 at the age of 81 years.

Predeceased by husband, John Callahan; parents: Ellen and Cyril Perchard; sisters: Betty Kinsella, Margaret Hanlon; brothers-in-law: Phil Kinsella, Pat Hanlon, William (Bill) McDonald; sister-in-law, Mary Mansfield; nieces: Teresa Turner, Geraldine Parrell.

Leaving behind with beautiful memories daughter (and soulmate), Deborah Callahan Dyer (Keith Dyer); son, David Callahan (Zoe Pourziai), Cornwall, ON; grandchildren (her “Gem” and “Treasure”): Kimberley and Tracey Dyer, whose reciprocated adoration inspired all; sisters: Dorothy MacLean (Dan), BC, Lorraine McDonald, Mona Kostiha (Joe), BC, Patricia Horan, BC; brothers: Ronald Perchard (Joan), James Perchard (Bernadette), David Perchard (Mary Lou); special niece, Mary Mansfield (“Little Mary”); nieces: Bernadette Locke (Jim), Catherine Walsh (Jerome); “daughter,” Ann Marie Butler (Pat), MA, USA; as well as many other nieces, nephews and friends. She is also remembered by her caregivers at St. Luke’s whose extraordinary care, love and devotion for 18 years evolved into deep friendships – no words could ever express our appreciation to each and every one of you.

While petite in frame, Mary was fierce in mind and honor. Despite tremendous adversity, she lived her life with happiness and constant optimism. She was a source of wisdom, strength and inspiration for all of us – for that she is sadly missed but never forgotten.

Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Corpus Christi Church on Saturday, May 20 at 10 a.m. with interment to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory can be made to VOWR or SPCA.

Don’t cry for me
Although I sleep
My life was long
And oft’ fulfilled
My limbs now free
My spirit soars

Dear Debbie and family, there is not a lot I have to say, we have certainly said it all in the past week or so…..Amazing….Extraordinary……Wise…..Unforgettable….Just a few words to describe your mom.I loved her with all my heart, Not surprisingly something special blossomed from the eighteen years she spent at st Luke’s and just grew even stronger over the past month or so. You and I have shared many special moments Debbie.and I have gained another sister.Thinking of you all at this sad time, but finding comfort in knowing she is watching over all of us from Heaven. Until we meet again sweet Mary, I’ll be watching for my special butterfly. Love you all. Ada
