Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021 former businessman, Robert Martin Green of New-Wes-Valley at 84 years of age. Predeceased by his parents, George and Dinah Green and brother-in-law, Gerald Cross.

Leaving to mourn with precious memories his wife of 59 years, Annie and daughter, Sandra Green (Charlie Furlong), sister, Marie-Beth Wright (Carl). Also mourning their great loss, nephews, Geoffrey Wright (Shawna Hudson) and Jordan Wright (Ashley), sister-in-law Roxanne Crocker (Paul), brothers-in-law Herbert (Gertie), Fred (Doris), sister-in-law Sheila Cross, Harry (Una), Curtis, and Randy Cross (Brenda) and a large number of other nieces and nephews.  We are grateful to Bob’s lifelong friends and other relatives, his Tim’s coffee buddies and the good people of New-Wes-Valley including former customers, colleagues and staff for their concern and support.

Bob acquired much fame and admiration as an outstanding raconteur and for his ability to entertain others. He naturally connected with all comers while operating a large general store in Valleyfield for over 45 years.

He was happiest at Mile One Centre, in movie theatres, riding ski doo or in front of a large TV screen. He consistently cheered on his beloved Chicago Black Hawks to mixed results over the years.

The family thanks the Reverend David Guzzwell and the doctors and nurses of 4 North A for their empathy and compassion in aiding Bob on his final journey.

On behalf of all residents of the Town of New Wes Valley, i wish to extend sincere condolences to the family of Robert “Bob” Green . An outstanding individual who spent his life as a business man . Always there to help anyone any way he could. Always had a smile for everyone as well a little joke to tell . He was surely missed when he moved to St. Johns a few years ago, but will truly be missed now that he has passed. Bob was ” one of a kind” but was one of us. Rest in Peace “Bobby”.

After he and Anne moved to St. John’s, there was a missing link in this area. Many time while we were living in town, we would always run into Bob at the Avalon Mall and would always take us aside and say, well now Mr H, “did you hear this one” and laughter would always end of our day.

Lloyd and I have known Bob and the Green family for almost 60 years . Roberta met him first when Marie invited three close university friends to her Valleyfield home for a “sleep over “ upon the completion of our first year of studies.

Bob knew how to make everyone feel special , using his warm smile and quick wit to brighten an ordinary day .
A visit to Greens ‘ shop was always on our itinerary whenever we travelled back home to Newtown. Many funny stories are retold by Lloyd with the preface : This is one of Bob Green’s jokes.

Bob you will always hold a special place in our hearts.

To the Green family: first got to meet Bob many years ago, he had done a few elections (both Provincial and Federal) election days over at the St. Pius X hall. He was the hall supervisor of the hall. We struck it off and quickly became friends getting together for a coffee. I would see him in the Avalon Mall going off to a movie, he’d stop and have a quick chat and say he waw “off to see a movie”. Every now and then my father and myself would run into him at Wal-Mart on Stavanger Drive area and always greeted us with a smile and a hug. A truly remarkable man. Enjoyed the chats I had with him and the memory of him will live in my heart forever.
