Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre, Tuesday, January 26, 2021 with his loving family by his side, Bobby Whalen, aged 67 years.
Predeceased by his parents Lottie (nee Lodge) and Ormond Whalen, grandparents James and Florence Whalen, and Chesley and Beatrice Lodge, plus many aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous fishing buddies, also nephew Bradley Whalen.
Leaving behind his loving wife of 38 years Linda (nee Miller), his two daughters April (Stephen) and Rhonda (B.J.) and his pride and joy, precious grandson 7-month-old Ben and two fur babies Princess and Buckie. Also leaving to mourn his brothers Blaine (Janet), Greg (Wanda), one very special sister Phyllis (Bob Horwood), Uncle Reg, brothers-in-law Jerry (Bernice), Barry and Glenn; special friends Marion and Gordon Churchill, also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Phyllis and Bob spent many hours with Bobby making sure he had plenty of snacks and anything else he may have wanted. Phyllis went above and beyond to ensure Bobby was comfortable and content.
The family would like to thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre, the L.A Miller Centre, and St. Patrick’s Mercy Home for their care and compassion in helping Bobby through this journey.
At Bobby’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Sunday, January 31st at 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person. Covid-19 restrictions will be in place.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bobby’s memory may be made to Memorial United Church in Portugal Cove or a charity of one’s choice.

Linda, there are no words to ease the hurt you are feeling now????, my sincere condolences to you on the loss of Bob. He was a man who was loved dearly by his family & friends. I am happy to call him & you my friends, I have lots of of wonderful and funny memories. For years Bob always made sure I had salt fish for Christmas Eve supper, I’ll never forget that.

Condolences to you all on the passing of Bob. We always enjoyed having a chat with Bob, he was always up for a good laugh. Once we met him by the side of a pond, we were all fishing and Bob was catching all the trout. We asked him how he managed to be catching so many and we weren’t catching any. He said you have to spit on the worm. We tried it and low and behold it worked. To this day when we are fishing we always spit on the worms and manage to catch a fry. Thank you Bob for that. Every time we fish now we speak of you. You will always be remembered. Happy fishing to you in your forever home. R.I.P. Bob
