Obituary

It is with saddened and broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Bridgeman of St. Brendan’s at the Palliative Care Unit on January 17, 2021.  Predeceased by his parents James and Ann Bridgeman and sister Theresa Brown (Kevin).

Leaving to mourn with loving memories, his life partner and best friend Sharon, dear brothers Kevin (Annette) and Ed (Patricia), and dear sister Bride Goodyear (Hayward – deceased). Also mourning and extra special to his heart: Harold (Elizabeth, grandchildren Laurie and Grace); Matthew, Sammi (Chad, Brodie and Abby) and Liam.  Sharing the loss are many nieces, nephews, family members and friends near and far.

“Ronnie” will be remembered by everyone as a kind and loving soul who loved life.  As a businessman on St. Brendan’s, he was always a point of contact for anyone entering the island whether it was for a brief moment or a long stay.  In particular, all children were given a kind smile and were shown his generous heart.

Thank you to all staff and doctors who treated Ronnie during his short illness.  Special thanks to Nurse Jenissa at the Palliative Care Unit for her care and kindness shown during his last hours.

Cremation has taken place.  Funeral mass will be held from St. Gabriel’s Church, St. Brendan’s, on January 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.  COVID-19 restrictions apply.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to our local chapter of Ronald McDonald House.

Shems never entered the store and left without a treat from Ron. He always showed such kindness and concern for us. I’m not sure he knew what a blessing he was to my Mom during Covid. Her daily trips to the store and chats helped to keep her (and many others I’m sure) sane and healthy. We will always be grateful for the warm welcome he gave us all.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Sharon, wishing you and your family and the Bridgeman family my sincere condolences. Rest in Peace Ron.

We are so saddened for the loss of your beloved Ron. He was such a gentle soul who was well liked and respected by all. Ron was a great friend to everyone on St. Brendan’s. He was especially kind and very helpful to our parents. Whatever they needed Ron made sure they had it. Our boys always looked forward to going to Ron’s store when we visited St. Brendan’s. It was the highlight of the trip. Ron was always very patient and kind to them. They always talked fondly of Ron.

We will all miss Ron dearly, visiting St. Brendan’s will not be the same without Ron there to help you.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.

With deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences

sharon, harold, and Elizabeth l am broken hearted . Condolences, I wish I could be with you

Shar, and Family, I am thinking of you during this extremely difficult time. I have such fond memories of my time on St. Brendans. As soon as he saw ya, he smiled and his time was yours whether it was for a second, few hours or in my case a few months. 🙂 We shared many of laughs together. He was simply the best boss, with sound advice “keep the beer cold, maid”! He certainly had the coldest beer in the island. Liam – keep your memories of Ronnie close, they will comfort you in the darkest of times. He certainly loved you ❤️
I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
from the beginning to the end.
He noted that first came the date of birth
and spoke of the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
they spent alive on earth
and now only those who loved him
know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars… the house… the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.
Ron Bridgeman 1961-2021
I was blessed to have been a part of your dash. ❤️

Sharron and Family. So very sorry for your loss. Ron was a great person who will be dearly missed. Thoughts and prayers for you during this difficult time.. Take strength from your family now.. God Bless???? Jim and Cheryl Reardon

My sincere condolences to Sharon and Ron’s family. I was deeply saddened to hear of Ron’s passing. I didn’t really know Ron until he opened his store. During that Summer we probably kept the store going with subs and beer while working on the student grant. He was always very patient and kind to everyone no matter what their walk of life was. Over the years through many visits back to the island it wasn’t hard to see the generosity that Ron had for all his patrons especially the little ones. I will always remember how well my son, Daniel was treated from the first time he entered Ron’s store…… he still has the pocket knife to remember one of his visits. Later when my wife was ill, he would be the first to ask how things were going and his concern was always genuine. A visit home will never be the same without seeing him. We will always miss you Ron…… you were one of the good ones. Love, Joey, Denise and Daniel
