It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Sandra Coombs (nee Fizzard) formerly of Labrador City, NL announce her peaceful passing. On Wednesday, May 6, 2020 after a courageous journey with Cancer at the age of 63 in St. John’s, NL surrounded with love from her family near and far.

Sandra will be forever remembered and missed by her husband Tom; daughter Taushawna (Tim), son Tyson (Lori), grandchildren Gabriel, Jayden, Emma-Lee, Lilyana, mother; Irene Fizzard, sisters; Marilyn, Donna, Trish ( Derec), Roxanne (Vince), brother Roger ( Marlene), aunts; Selena, Helen, uncle John, as well as a large circle of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and others that she has impacted.

Predeceased by her father Rev. Edward George Fizzard, brothers Eric and Michael, mother and father in-law, Michael and Marion, brother in-law Harold.

Sandra will always be remembered for her sense of humour, carefree spirit, kindness and compassion for others and above all else the everlasting love she had for her children and grandchildren.

She lit up the room with her infectious laugh and vibrant personality, a firecracker until the end. She was fiercely proud of her Newfoundland heritage and collected many books, stories, songs, and recipes. Anyone that met her immediately saw her smile and felt her warm personality as she was known to strike a conversation with anyone and easily made friends. Her love of music was evident as she knew how to rock out to AC/DC and dance the Newfoundland step dance. Our grateful hearts will cherish our many memories of her as she made our world a brighter, better place.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Armstrong, Dr. McIssac, Dr. Larson and Dr. Doulton at Dr. H Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre and Emily Hicks at palliative care unit for their exceptional care and support she received during treatments.

A special thank you to Bev, Pauline, Anne, Andrea, Sheilah and Maureen for years of love, support, and friendship. She was blessed to have you all in her life. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be announced at a future date.

“ I don’t need fortune and I don’t need fame

Send down the thunder Lord, send down the rain

But when you’re plannin’ just how it will be

Plan a good day for me”.

-Lyrics taken from one of her favourite songs

by Don Williams, Lord I hope this day is good.

Sandra and her family lived across the street from us in Labrador City for a long time. For a number of years now she had been spending most of her time outside the area with family. I had heard that Sandra was not well for awhile now but was certainly saddened to hear of her passing at such a young age. To Tom, Taushawna, Tyson, her grandchildren and extended family, our sincere condolences to all at this extremely difficult time in the midst of a health crisis. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to Sandra’s family. Her passing will leave a great void in their lives. As her obituary so rightly said, she will be “remembered for her sense of humour, carefree spirit, kindness and compassion” and the love she had for her children and grandchildren. Sandra was a very special friend and our lives were enriched by her generosity of spirit, her optimistic attitude toward life, and her friendship. She will be greatly missed by Maureen and by me.
