Trudy Joyce Austin

Obituary

It is with deep sadness and much love, we mourn the passing of Trudy Joyce Austin at the age of 65. She passed peacefully in the company of loved ones after a long, courageous battle with cancer on March 19, 2021.

Predeceased by her mother Norma “Louise” Austin and father Bruce Austin.

She will be dearly missed and always loved by her daughter and best friend Tracy (Keith) Stone, grandchildren Cameron, Evan and Peyton Stone. They were her pride and joy and she will forever be an angel by their sides.

Trudy will also be lovingly remembered by her five sisters: Jeanette (Norm) Snelgrove, Linda (Derek) Andrews, Barbara (Rick) Byrne, Janet (Ralph) Evans, Jill (Robert) Taylor; Her nine nieces, nephews and their extended families. Trudy spent many days laughing and enjoying quality family time with all of them and they all held a special place in her heart.

She will also be missed by her special neighbours and good friends, Sharon and Wally Murphy; as well as many other good friends who were all very dear to her.  Their love and friendship was truly adored.

Thank-you to all of the health-care professionals who assisted Trudy and her family throughout the course of her illness.

Cremation has taken place and a small family committal service will be held in her honour. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.

Unseen, unheard but always near, still loved, still missed and held so dear.”

0ur sincere condolences to Tracy and all of Trudy’s family. Working with Trudy was a pleasure. One of my earliest and fondest memories was going into the lunch room on the day I joined Nortel and finding a sign “Please clean up when you are finished, your mother doesn’t work here”. Not sure that it was Trudy’s sign but I always attributed it to her. It could not have been easy working for our group with all the different demands on her time but she was a very efficient, organized and dedicated person.

My deepest condolences go out to Tracy and the Austin family. I was so sorry to hear of Trudy’s passing. I worked with Trudy for many years at Nortel and it was a pleasure. Oddly enough Tracy , and my own daughter , were both born on March 19….one year apart…so remembering that day was easy! But this particular March 19 is a sad day! May Trudy rest in peace. May God bless you all.

I was deeply saddened when I heard from Janet yesterday that Trudy passed away. My sincere condolences to Tracy, Keith and her three children as they deal with their loss and to Trudy’s clan of supportive sisters. I was honored to have the absolute please of working with Trudy for a very long time at Nortel. Trudy had extraordinary qualities. She always spoke the truth and spoke her mind and never had any agenda. She was very bright and a diligent worker, happy and content when busy, and I often said that it would take two or three to replace her. She certainly knew how to handle the male dominated work place at Nortel in those early days and offered a huge amount of support to us all and to our clients we served. I speak for all of us when I say that Trudy earned the respect of everyone us who were fortunate enough to work with her. In later years she kept us together with a pre-Christmas breakfast and I will miss that and miss Trudy. Finally her outlook on life as she faced her medical challenges was an inspiration to us all. Living in her neighborhood, I would see her regularly out for a walk and she always greeted me with a big smile, dwelling on the positives in life.
RIP my old friend
