Obituary

Passed peacefully away at Agnes Pratt Home on September 19, 2017, Velma Myrtle King Young, in her 86th year. Velma was born in Bay Roberts to Walter and Fannie (nee Samways) Caravan on January 13, 1932. Velma was proud of her profession as a nurse and served as the Director of Nursing at the Janeway Children’s Hospital. She is survived by her second husband Haig. Velma is predeceased her first husband William (Bill), daughter Jacki (Hollett); brothers, Arthur, Roy, Leslie, Earle, and Isaac, and sister Lois. Leaving to mourn, her son Jim (Corinne) and brothers Bert, Bruce and David; grandchildren, Christopher, Zachary (Veronika), Matthew, David and Alexandra, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks for the care provided by the nurses and staff at the Agnes Pratt Home. As per Velma’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation to be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday September 21, 2017 from 2 pm – 4 pm and 7 pm – 9 pm. Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Friday September 22, 2017 at 11:00 am with interment to follow in the family plot at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Velma’s memory may be made to the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation or the Agnes Pratt Home.

Velma was a beautiful and gentle soul. Myself and Sandra felt it being an honor to have known her, care for her, at one of the homes she lived in. She loved her Dixie cups, cranberry juice, and many others, as well enjoyed listening and singing to an oldie on the radio!!!! Dearest Haig, my deepest thoughts and prayers are with you and the family during this time, she was beautiful as she was inside and out. As well a pleasure to be in the company of her….god bless to a sweet angel……
