Pat and family.
It is with great sorrow that we heard of Bills passing. Words cannot express the impact he had on my life and career and the esteem I have for him as a friend, mentor and engineer. He was one of the kindest gentleman I had the privilege to know . Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Pat, so sad to receive your call this evening to say Willie had passed away. Our sincere condolences to you and the family. He was just a month older than Bob whose birthday was the day of the funeral. They along with Bill Maher and Harold Anderson first met in the late 50’ s while working for the Quebec Cartier Mining Railway and then while working on a transmission line in Ghana, West Africa. Over the years we managed to get together in Ottawa first when the family visited at our home in the early 80 ‘s. In 2002 Bob and I spent a holiday in St. John’s where Willie took us on a tour of the West Coast Trail and showered us with Newfoundland hospitality. We sometimes met at Bill and Barbara’s cottage in Mattawa, ON where we first met you, Pat. You can only imagine the stories when those four guys got together. They all travelled world wide. Wonderful guys and wonderful memories. We will miss the three of them.
We were glad we had the opportunity to view the funeral service and hear the kind words so well deserved.

Sincerely, Carmel and Bob Forbrigger Ottawa

I am very sad to hear of Bill’s passing. My condolences to his family and friends.
I worked with Bill early in my professional career for close to a decade. We worked on marine and fisheries infrastructure projects through out Newfoundland. I was the junior engineer, he was the senior structural engineer and project manager. We travelled extensively and socialized frequently. We was a great guy to be with and one of the best as mentor. I never recalled Bill ever being harsh or angry, always a true gentleman and excellent engineer. I always admired that fact we had a common Newfoundland name, but spoke French fluently, because he grew up in Quebec. While we have not been contact in many years, I know he loved to travel around the world, bringing his engineering knowledge to world class marine projects internationally and did so successfully.
Rest in peace, my colleague

Dear Pat and family,
My sincere condolences to you all. . Bill always had a broad smile like sunshine, no matter what the weather. He will be greatly missed.

Bill was not only a great structural engineer, but also a man of many other talents and interests. He will be remembered for the La Manche Bridge as already noted as well as the Bear River Bridge in Nova Scotia. Rest In Peace, Bill!

Condolences to the Collins family on Bill’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with him on numerous marine and civil projects since 1970 – he was the best engineer that I have ever dealt with.

My condolences to Bill’s family and friends. I had the pleasure of working with Bill many years ago. He was a lovely man to work with.

I was so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I have known him for more than 25 years. We first met in the early days of the development of the East Coast Trail and spent many enjoyable days on the trails. I have particularly fond memories of a two day trip from La Manche to Brigus South on which Bill was proudly joined by his, then young, grandson Sidney. His contributions to the development of the trail are incomparable. I can’t visit many of the structures he designed, most notably the La Manche Bridge, without thinking of him. I will miss his smile and his friendship. I trust that his family will be comforted by many wonderful memories of a life well lived.

I had the extreme pleasure of working with Bill during our BAE Group days. Our paths continued to cross over the past 30 years and he always amazed me with his passion and knowledge of the engineering profession. He was a true gentleman who certainly had a positive influence on many people. My sincere condolences to your family.

To Bill’s family: I had the very great pleasure of working with Bill on the Hibernia Project. We used to drive out to Bull Arm every Monday morning and return to St John’s on Friday afternoon. Bill was a great engineer and a very fine person.. we had a lot of laughs together even though the work was very difficult and stressful at times. Please accept my heartfelt sympathies.. He was a special person.

Dear Pat and family,
Maxine and I are saddened to learn of Bill’s passing. He was a true friend and mentor to many of us in the engineering community. Although his generous spirit was typically hidden by his modest nature, many have learned through the grapevine of many contributions he made to our society over the course of his exceptionally long career. The engineering design of East Coast Trail’s suspended bridge at La Manche is one example of that many unsung gifts he left us. They say that only the good die young, and that is true of Bill, whose inquisitiveness and youthfulness was always evident. RIP Bill.

Rest In Peace Bill! You were a man with a heart of gold!

Lisa and family. Our thoughts are with you during this time. Sending our love and condolences.
