Our Family History
It was during Andrew G. Carnell's time, that the company became directly involved in undertaking and embalming. After having become Newfoundland's first certified embalmer in 1902, Andrew expanded Carnell's Carriage Factory into a mortuary. In 1937, he retired from the company to devote his time to politics. Fondly remembered as the "Mayor of Newfoundland', Andrew was first elected Mayor of St. John's in 1934, and served in that capacity for 15 years. His son, Geoffrey C. Carnell, Sr. became the new President of the company.
