Apart from working with Dave at CJON, we were also friends who as kids played together . I also remember fondly his dear Mom and Dad. I guess I will always remember Dave doing the "Letters to Santa" at CJON, and how much he enjoyed it.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this most difficult time.

To the Wheeler family, my condolences on Dave's passing. While I had some dealings with Dave at VOCM when I was Director of Water Safety with the Canadian Red Cross, he and I were school friends and have known one another for a long time. He was well liked and known in the community. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.

Shelley (Penney) Andrews

To Dave's family,

I worked with Dave at VOCM and I will remember him with great fondness. Dave was a very generous soul. He could always be counted on. He gave me many rides home from work in his LADA when I lived on St. Laurent Street in St. John's. His stories were memorable. He always talked very fondly about his boys and the music/broadcasting business. Dave ...you were one of the greats and I will cherish the times we worked together. Fly with the angels my friend.

Rosemary Ash

Sincere sympathy on the loss of your dear David. Your loving family will all miss his pleasant nature and I'm sure many happy memories will be shared. Our condolences.

Hi Barb,
It was with great shock & sadness we learned of Dave's passing .I have so many pleasant memories of him ; visits to your home & walks to the ocean & chats about anything you might want to mention to him. As we all know he had a great gift of the gab !!Some of my fondest memories were visits to his prided basement !
It's been a long time since I talked to him last but since we opened the store on Water St our lives have become incredibly busy . I wish I had known he was in the hospital . It would have been easier to get there for a few minutes since it was so much closer . Sadly that opportunity has passed .Suffice to say I was very very fond of him & it makes me very sad to know that he is gone .
Marilyn & I hope that you & your family will recover quickly from this loss & that your hurt & sorrow will fade quickly.
God bless
Randell & Marilyn

I know I am late sending this but I do want to send the family my heartfelt sadness at your loss. I spent many years working with "Wheels" and he taught me so much over the course of that time. He was kind, giving and very easy going. I will miss him as I know the rest of the broadcast world will miss him. He is a great loss.

Karen Parmiter, Canmore, Alberta

At VOCM we call called Dave "Wheels"; I still don't know why but it seemed to be appropriate. Everybody liked Wheels. He was a kind-hearted, wonderful human being. For years after he semi-retired, Dave still did voice-overs for a number of clients of mine; "soft-sell" was one of his specialities. I also recall chatty, sunny visits with him and his family at his home in Torbay.

John and Joan Fisher (nee Thorburn), Ottawa

Dear Barb, Glenn, Chris, Michael, and Mrs. Rolls,
Our sincere sympathies at this sad time with both my Mom and my cousin, David passing away in the same week. I have wonderful memories of David - his wonderful, always present smile, his sense of humour, his golden voice, and his love for music. He let me tag after him constantly as a teenager visiting in Gander, playing the guitar for me, taking me everywhere. He was my hero. He was always so brave, and so kind and considerate. He will truly be missed.

Jean andGordon Smith

Dear Barbara,Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the boys during this difficult time.Take care and God Bless...

To the wheeler family.....I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Dave was an excellent broadcaster and entertainer on the radio. As a young boy and teenager, I grew up listerning to VOCM always being on in the background. Dave was always their doing what he did best - chatting up a storm in between songs, commercials and newscasts. He was a pleasure to listen to and was a master of music and entertaining the listener. His voice was very distinguishable and always caught my ear. Dave will be missed. He touched the hearts of many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Take care!

Ivan and Elizabeth (Dolly) LeDrew

I worked with Dave at CJON almost 40 years ago and I am very saddened by his passing. We got along very well, even though I was there for a relatively short time before returning to Ontario. We had a nice conversation many years later and reminisced about the good old days including Santa Claus etc. And what a voice! My sincere condolences go out to the entire family.

Dear Wheeler family, I cannot tell you how shocked and saddened we were to learn of David's passing. Many fond and happy memories surface for me as I remember the times we all spent together as I was growing up. I was always so struck by David's zest and love of life. I am so thankful they experienced that together.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.
