Obituary

Passed peacefully away into the grace of God on a starlit morning on October 17th, 2019, Carmen Josepha Brescia Del Rizzo.  Carmen was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin, parents José Maria Brescia and Carmen Michelletti, and infant son.  Carmen was born in the town of Carlos Salas, Argentina and emigrated to Newfoundland in 1965. Carmen was an exceptional mother to her beloved son Johnny (Melanie) and Abuela to her cherished grandchildren Amelia and Gabriel.  Also leaving to mourn (in Argentina) sisters Vilma Brescia, Sylvia Brescia, Dominga Brescia (niece and nephew: Sergio and Claudia Marcella Cavelli), brother Juan Carlos Brescia (nieces and nephews: Sylvia, Viviana, Juan José, and Rodrigo), brother-in-law and family in Newfoundland: Guido Del Rizzo (Frances) and nieces and nephews Sabrina Del Rizzo Day (Brian), Jean Baptiste Del Rizzo (Tina) and Matthew Del Rizzo (Sherry), and special nieces in Argentina, Emilce and Liliana Del Rizzo.  The family also wishes to express their immense gratitude to the staff of St. Luke’s Home, Trinity Square for their professionalism, care and compassion. A special thank you to Dr. Colin Penney for his kindness during a very difficult time. Thanks to friends Sandra Bassan and Lina Mascarin for their unwavering friendship and caring throughout all of Carmen’s years in Newfoundland. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Sunday October 20th from 5-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday October 21st at 11:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.  Flower’s gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Association of New Canadians.
