Obituary

Passed peacefully away, at the Caribou Memorial Veterans’ Pavilion, St. John’s, on May 25th, 2019, Cyril Gorner, age 95 years.

Predeceased by first wife and mother of his children, Marjorie; second wife, Marguerite, and eldest son, Barrie; also, by his brother, Noel and stepson, Ian.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, Joy, elder son, Ian and daughter-in-law, Madonna (Ryan) and grandchildren, Joshua (Sarah Beth), Sarah and Emily, all in Ontario; also, youngest son, Geoffrey in St. John’s, as well as other relatives in Manchester, U.K, including special niece, Ann.

He also leaves behind stepson, Stephen, his wife, Eileen, two grandsons and one great-grandson.

The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd, St. John’s on Thursday, May 30th/19 and Friday, May 31st/19 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Funeral service to be held in the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, June 1st/19 at 1:00 pm, followed by internment at the Field of Honour, in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, James Lane.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army will be gratefully accepted.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses and all the staff at the DVA Pavilion for the warm and loving care that Cyril received during his 16 months stay there.

To the Gorner Family, I would like to offer my condolence to the family on Mr Gorner’s passing. We met the Gorner family when we moved to Commonwealth Ave in Mt Pearl over 50 years ago. So sorry to learn of Mr. Gorner’s passing. I knew him from Canada Post and many evenings he gave me a ride home from work. I also remember how much he loved to dance. Deepest sympathy to all the family.
