Obituary
Passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, at the age of 72. Leaving to mourn, his wife Ranjini; daughter Shobhana (Nathan); brother Jeyaraj; sisters Kamala, Ranjini, and Shanthi, as well as a large circle of relatives, friends, and students throughout Canada, Sri Lanka, and the UK. Visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Friday, August 26th, 2016 from 5 – 9 p.m. A Funeral service will take place in the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, August 27th, 2016 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society, or the Health Sciences Centre.

Though time has past we never forget Dr. Hoover. I think about him often, remembering funny/sweet moments (like when he accidentally called me sweetie when I answered the phone, thinking I was Shobi). I also think of him watching Nathaniel and Caleb, knowing how proud and full of love for his grandsons he would be. Forever sending my love to Shobi and Mrs. Hoover.
I was looking for one of his article written in 1994, instead I find this information about his passing away 5 years ago. I send my thoughts and prayers to his familly. Dr. Hoover was an excellent researcher. He still is one of my preferate reference on the thermal processing of starch. Brillant scientist never died. They live in their achievements. May he rest in peach
I am deeply saddened by the news of Dr. Ratnajothi Hoover passing. As a research collaborator, we coauthored more than 25 peer-reviewed scientific papers in last 13 years. He will be truly missed as a very knowledgeable professor in our starch research community. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
With sorrow I have learned of the passing of my former employer, a warm and patient man. I offer my condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Ranjini, I just found out about your husband. I am so sorry for you loss. You and Shobhana are in my prayers and thoughts. Our deepest condolences go out to Ranjani Auntie and Shobi. The news of Jodi uncle’s sickness was a complete shock to us. He was someone who ensured every aspect of his life was perfect. He was a great family friend, one whom we could never forget.. Our family has such fond memories of Him. When my mother and father first immigrated to Canada, he provided constant support and assistance making the transition much easier. We pray Gods grace and strength for the family and relatives during this difficult time.

I never had the opportunity to meet Dr. Hoover, but i have heard nice words having worked with his sister Shanthi. Please rest well, eternally with God our creator. And may God grant all the families and relatives strength, love, and grace at this time and always. Amen.
My condolence goes to the family Dr. Hoover left behind. The news of his sickness was a shock to me. I was opportuned to be his student in the last winter semester and he was very nice and helpful. The short period I knew him matters to me a lot and he will be missed dearly. RIP Dr. Hoover.

Professor Hoover was one the best teachers that we ever met. We all are deeply saddened by his demise. We met him first almost sixteen years ago in St. john’s and ever since he was a great teacher and mentor for us and for many in St. John’s, too. We are deeply saddened by the news. Dr. Hoover was known to us for more than 30 years, as an excellent teacher to both of us and later as a close friend. When we left Newfoundland a couple of months ago, he was there to say good-bye, and we never thought that would be the last time we meet him.
