Edgar (Ed) C. Hindy

October 25, 1958 to October 9, 2017

Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Edgar (Ed) Charles Hindy on October 9, 2017 at the Miller Centre (Palliative Care Unit), with his family by his side, after a long and courageous battle with illness. Ed was born on October 25, 1958 in St. John’s, NL to proud parents Edgar J. and Shirley Hindy (nee Seward).    Besides his parents, Ed will be lovingly remembered by his partner and best friend of 20 years, Sharon Walsh; his sister Karen (Greg) Preston; his children who he adored: Angela (Shawn) Omand, Adam (Rebekah) Hindy and Amanda (Doug) Gosse; his precious grandchildren: Ashton Hindy, Madison and Joshua Omand and Emily Gosse; Sharon’s children: Kyla, Kerri, Kurtis and Kolin Walsh;  nephew Ryan Preston and niece Kayla Preston; aunts: Betsy Hefford, Sally Seward and Norma Hindy; uncles: Martin (Sharon) Hindy and David Hindy; cousins: Albert (Valerie) Hefford, Sherry (Clayton) Bailey and Judy (Karen) Hefford;  and special friends.

Ed will always be remembered for his generous heart, quick wit, boisterous laugh, love of life, contagious smile and twinkle in his eye. Growing up he was always active, surrounded by friends, and loved fast cars, snow mobiles and motorcycles and was an avid collector of just about everything.  As a child he spent many summers in New Perlican, NL, with his much loved Nan Seward and could be found most days with a fishing pole in his hands.  After spending 26 years with the Federal Government (Department of Fisheries and Department of Taxation) he retired for health reasons in 2006.    He has spent the last few years enjoying a slower pace of life, the company of his children and grandchildren and spending his winters in Florida.

The family is especially grateful to the medical staff at the Miller Centre (Palliative Care Unit), Health Science Complex (Cardiac Care Unit) and St. Clare’s Hospital (Vascular Unit), particularly the wonderful doctors and nurses who provided care for him and support for his family over the last several months.

The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Wednesday, October 11th, 2017 from 7 – 9 p.m. and Thursday, October 12th, 2017 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m.  Funeral service will take place on Friday, October 13th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.  from The Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road with interment to follow at the Kenmount Road Anglican Cemetery.  Flowers gratefully accepted.  Those wishing to make a donation in Ed’s memory may do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes’s Association or a charity of one’s choice.

I knew Ed many years ago when we were children on Field Street and that was a lifetime ago. Even though I haven’t seem him since we were kids I never forgot him from those days so long ago. Ed was also friends with Keith Tizzard back then and they both went to St.Georges School.
God rest his soul.

Edgar ,Shirley,Sharon and family.Sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We were sad to hear of Ed’s passing . Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

I was searching for another visitation notice online this afternoon and saw Ed’s obituary. We were classmates in junior high school and also attended the same high school. I’d only run into him once or twice since then.

The obituary line about Ed’s “generous heart, quick wit, boisterous laugh, love of life, contagious smile and twinkle in his eye” well describes the Ed I knew all those years ago, too. A great guy. I’m sorry to hear of his sickness and passing, and offer heartfelt condolences to his family.

Amanda, Angela, & Adam,
So sorry for the loss of your father.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this heartbreaking time.

I write this note with a heavy heart to hear that Ed has passed away.

We grew up through attending St. Georges Elementary in St. John’s and over the years since have had our paths cross.

Last time would have been in 2006 when I happened to drop by Rev Canada to say hi. I asked for Ed and they asked what was my name, I said Ken Warren.

Ed came out and said OH IT’S ONLY YOU. I said why,? He said the person in charge of Rev Canada in St. John’s at the time was a Ken Warren and I thought you were him. We had a chuckle then a chat about family and friends as well as his pending retirement.

To his family, please accept myself and the Warren family condolences on Ed’s passing.

God Bless
The Warrens

We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family may God be with you all at this sad time…

Our deepest condolences to the loss of your brother, Ed. Thinking of you during this very sad time.

Just look at that smile.! He could light up the darkest room and make you happy when you weren’t. Even in his darkest hour, he had that smile when I walked into his room. Ed, you were so special and will be sorely missed by all who knew you. The last thing he wanted was to bring sorrow to his loved ones. May they rejoice, in time, with all the special memories that made him the gentleman that he was. God bless you Ed.
Love Marjorie, Chris & Latonna Rodgers.
