Florence Lench Tilley (King), passed away on August 21, 2020 at the Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 98.

She was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Lydia May King of Bauline, and her brother and three sisters, Leslie, Olive, Gwen and Mabel. Also predeceased by her loving and cherished husband Edwin, after 55 years of marriage.

She is survived by her sons Glenn (Gertrude) and Gerry (Anne), granddaughters Michelle (Doug) and Allison (Jason), four great-grandsons, Jack, Josh, Jared and Ben, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and friends, including the staff and residents of Ruby Manor Retirement Home in St. John’s where she lived for six years.

Florence trained as a teacher and taught in small Newfoundland communities. In later years, she worked at Birk’s & Sons, and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the public. She could play the organ by ear and loved to play gospel hymns, which were a large part of her faith and sustained her throughout her lifetime. A kind and gentle soul, she loved simple pleasures – berry picking, her garden, winter “boil-ups” in the woods, looking after her home, including whipping up a pie or cookies in a few minutes.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no visitation and a private funeral service will be held.

In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to The Hospital Health Care Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice.

My Deepest sympathies to you all. I always enjoyed my chats with Mrs. Tilley while she was a resident of Ruby Manor, she always had a beautiful smile on her face that lit up the room, and such a beautiful laugh. She will surely be missed but never forgotten.

To the Tilley Family.

My deepest sympathies to you all on the passing of your dear Mother. She was my first school teacher in Bauline and a wonderful teacher she was. She also became a friend. I went to school with her brother, Leslie King and he and I graduated together. When her father, Bernard King, who we all affectionately knew in Bauline as Uncle Bern passed, my father, Albert LeGrow took his place as the Lay Reader in the United Church in Bauline. Our families were connected over the years through school, church and the Orange Lodge, which my Father and Uncle Bern were members. I have lots of wonderful memories of the King family.
Hold the memories of your Mom close to your heart. May she rest in peace.

Gerry,, Glen and families.

Your Mom was such a sincere , caring , and gentle woman. My childhood memories are of the Sunday evening sing songs at our home in Hants Harbour with Florine at the pump organ. The laughter and chatter was abundant between the hymns.
It has been a few years since I have seen your Mom but someone in the fami,ly always kept me up to date. Cherish your wonderful memories .

To Glen & Gerry Tilley & Family
So sorry to learn of your mother’s passing. I am presently in Nova Scotia visiting my grandchildren and their parents. Your grandparents, the Kings, were staunch supporters of the Bible Society when I was C.E.O. and I have been visiting your mother ever since she became a resident of Ruby Manor. We shared many conversations and prayers together through the years and I know we will meet again. Be assured of our thoughts and and prayers as you lay her to rest.

I got to know your Mom at Ruby Manor while my Dad, Doug Payne resided there from 2017-2019& while My Parents in Law resided at Ruby Manor. I loved when your Mom would sit for a long time playing the piano at Ruby Manor & my Dad & I would sit & listen to your Mom’s hymn playing.
