Brian and Family,

Please accept our condolences on the passing of your father. Our lasting memory of Gil will be his evening trout fishing spins on the pond, of which very few went unrewarded !

Our thoughts are with you. May your memories of your father be a blessing to you and your family.

Doug and Joanne Chafe

Please accept our regrets on Gil’s passing.. Our folks,
Arthur and Georgina Young did indeed have a long and wonderful friendship with Gil and Greta. .The last time I saw Gil he gave me a plaque from the old school where Dad taught .I really appreciated that.

So sorry to learn today of Gil’s passing. I’ll always remember the moose hunting trips we had together. He taught me a lot.

Gil had a long and fruitful collaboration with my father Hubert at DFO. On my living room wall is a picture of Gil and Hubert in SCUBA gear about to dive into the waters off Bell Island. They shared many adventures, discoveries and firsts. And for me, Gil’s boat was where I had my first row on the bay. It was Gil who showed me where to find cod and how to haul them in. He supervised my first job at sea that led to a career on the water. After my father passed, I would look forward to the companionship and stories Gil would tell of the sea and the land when I visited in the summer.

Gil was a steadfast friend, an example to look up to, and one of the warmest people I’ve known. He will be greatly missed.

Ross, Greta, and Brian, you are in our thoughts.

our deepest sympathy to you reg, on the passing of your brother gil. to you and all the family may he rest in peace

I remember Gill so well and so clearly when he and Greta would visit Mom and Dad in St. Philips for gatherings. I also remember Gill from Dad’s 90th. birthday celebration on June 13, 2008. One other remembrance when Warren and I baby sat for Gill and Greta one night. The main order was not to let the cat in the house. Well, somehow the cat found its way inside and had her kittens in Leila’s bed.

Dear Greta, Ross ,Brian & all the Tucker family,
Gordie & I are so sorry to learn of Gil’s passing. He has been our neighbour & friend for decades. He was a great presence & we will miss him , especially in the summer mornings as he called the ducks to feed..We wish we could offer our condolences in person but Gordie’s current chemotherapy regime unfortunately makes a funeral home visit too risky for him. Please know however that we are thinking of you..
Deepest sympathy,
Eileen & Gordie MacNab

As long as I can remember I have known Gil and Greta. It was common practice for me to drop into their home on my way home from school. As a young teenager I admired them so much. He was tall and handsome, Greta was tiny and pretty. I loved the romantic picture they made, I would visit them and their small children. while Gil was often away working on the sea, but Greta was like a mentor to me. Every teenage girl needs someone like her, to help through the early dating days. She was a wonderful older friend., and Gil was a truly lovely man. Neither of them was never the same after they lost their beloved daughter Leila. But as Christian people they know they will be reunited with their loved ones gone before. Deepest sympathy to Greta, Ross, Brian and their families,Tom, Leilas husband and daughter Renee,. To all Gil’s family, to his siblings and to his numerous friends our condolences. May Gods peace. be with you all Charlie and I are thinking of you and holding you all in prayer

Very sorry to hear of Gil’s passing.
He is one of the few remaining scientific staff of the St John’s Biological Station who were personally hired by Dr Templeman in the 1950s..
Dr Templeman’s standards were very high, selecting only those with exceptional intelligence and a strong work ethic both in the laboratory and at sea.

It was a pleasure to be a long term colleague of Gil’s at both the Biological Station and NAFC at the White Hills.
My condolences to Gil’s extended family
