Obituary

Tonight the sky shone a little brighter, as a new star joined the lights given off by hundreds of millions gathered there before. This star is a little brighter due to the unforgettable smile, and twinkle in the eyes, from a loving wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother. She will always be remembered as a kind loving person with the best smile & wit forever remembered by her family & everyone who ever met her.  She began as an EKG technician then moved up to one of the directors of the Grace General Hospital in St. John’s NL.  All who knew her agreed, she had the best sense of humor of anyone we knew right up to the end. She was kind, sweet, and an accomplished musician & singer. She was predeceased by her husband Bruce Myrick Payne, her mom & dad  Jesse James Pritchett & Miriam her brothers Bealah, Spencer, Herbie, Ira, Abram, Curtis & sisters Nellie, Jessie & a special sister-in-law Evelyn Pritchett of Gambo. She will be sadly missed by her loving children Calvin Payne (Mary) of Ajax Ontario, Joan Chase (Wayne) of Moncton NB, Marilyn Girvan (Wally) of Riverview NB & Brian (Marggie) Payne of St John’s NL. Her wonderful grandchildren Eleanor (John Bouchard), Karen Duffett McKinley, Greg Duffett, Geoff Duffett, Susan, Kim (Derek Noseworthy), Jennifer (Chris Cusack),Christy (Scott Squires) step grandchildren Jeff (Leslie Chase), & Tara Chase & her great grandchildren Samantha, Alex, Evan & Chad, step great grandchildren Myah, Fletcher, Alex & Emma plus all her loving nieces & nephews.
There is a scripture, John 14:2, which says, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would not have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”  I can imagine the beautiful resting place that is prepared for her as she joins the family and friends who have gone before her.  Welcome home my sweet lady. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. The family will accept visitors on Saturday, September 10th, 2016 from 2 – 4 p.m, and 7 – 9 p.m, and Sunday, September 11th, 2016 from 2 – 4 p.m and 7 – 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday, September 12th, 2016 at 2 p.m, with interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. I’m still out of the country, Brian, but hoping to get back on the 17th.

Our thoughts are with everyone in the family today. Nanny Payne was a very special lady who we thought so highly of. Cherish the happy memories of her, as we know there were many.

Joan & Marilyn,

We are so very sorry to hear of your mother/grandmother’s passing. When we met her at Chris and Jen’s wedding 18 years ago I remember thinking what a lovely lady. We can see that she has left part of herself in each and every one of you to let her shine out.

So sorry to hear of Aunt Irene’s passing. Our family will always remember the times she & Aunt Nellie shared meals with us when your mom was visiting Gander. She loved to laugh & make others laugh with her funny stories. Whenever she heard a new story she would say ” I have to remember that one to tell Calvin when I call him. ”
