Obituary

Passed peacefully away on April 15, 2021 at St Patrick’s Mercy Home at 85 years of age. Predeceased by her parents Edgar and Sylvia Ewing, sister Peggy O’Dea, brother-in-law Fabian O’Dea and niece Deborah O’Dea. Leaving to mourn her husband and lifelong companion of 65 years Grant; daughters, Kate Chalker and Beth (Joffre Bruce), and son, Tom Chalker (Janice); grandchildren Sarah Moffatt, Hannah Moffatt (Lenny Leblanc), Will Moffatt (Kayla), Grant Moffatt (Robyn), Leslie (Jody Charlebois), Lori Bruce, Brent Chalker and Julia Chalker and great-grandchildren Sophie Moffatt, Reagan Moffatt, Lucas Charlebois & Lyla Charlebois.

Jan will be remembered as a caring wife, mother and grandmother.  Throughout their marriage, Grant and Jan were surrounded by many friends and enjoyed a very busy and happy social life.  Jan loved her home.  It was always immaculate.  Jan looked forward to Thursday lunches and all of the fun and laughter that she shared with her dear friend Ingrid Curtis.  Jan loved to read, play bridge with Emmy Lou and accompany Grant on “The Boat”.

We would like to express a very special thank-you and sincere appreciation to the staff of St Patrick’s Mercy Home for months of kind and compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place.  Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, Freshwater Road. Visitation on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Funeral Service will take place on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 3:00 pm from St. Mark’s Church, Logy Bay Road. Inurnment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jan’s memory to the Community Food Sharing Association Inc, Quintessential Vocal Ensemble or a charity of your choice.

Uncle Grant, Kate, Tom and Beth,

I was sad to learn of Aunt Jan’s passing. I hope she is at peace and I know she had a great life with her family and friends.

I always enjoyed her hospitality and company. My condolences to all of you.

Sincere & heartfelt condolences to the Chalker family . Jan was such a regular & loved part of our house my youth with her & Mom at the house either going for lunch or game of cards, few drinks/smokes, they were inseparable & so full of charisma.
