Obituary
Joe was tragically taken from us on November 5, 2019, aged 23 years. He was predeceased by his pop Jim Hapgood Sr.; poppy Ed Barrington and cousin Allison Hapgood. Leaving to mourn with fun, loving , and precious memories are his parents Denise and Jim, special brother John; his devoted grandmother Doris Barrington; loving grandparents Ned and Jeanne Nash of Chester N.S; Aunt Lisa Nash (Bruno), Uncle Mike Nash (Donna), Uncle Tony Nash, Uncle John Hapgood (Tina), Uncle Craig Hapgood (Juanita) and Uncle Will Hapgood (Angela); cousins and other relatives and friends. Joe will be resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 1045 Topsail Road, on Friday November 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Saturday November 9 from 3 – 7 p.m. Flower’s gratefully accepted or donations can be made in Joe’s memory to Choice’s for Youth or the Native Friendship Centre.

We are so very sorry for your loss of Joe.
I will never forget when you moved in across the street from us in Edmonton. Big moving van being unloaded Joe & Denise playing on the front grass Joe was having fun with a great big cardboard box! Playing hide and seek.
Then Douglas (Doug) and I came over to introduce our selves with some toys for Joe to play with and welcome you all to the neighbourhood. So many memories made with all of you. Just know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I was living in Moncton when Joe was born and attended his baptism. I remember in later years a happy child with a love of fly fishing handed down from Jim, the last time while the family was living in Edmonton. My sincerest sympathies to Jim, Denise, and John for their sudden and unexpected loss. May the good memories of Joe help to console you all during this difficult time. I had the pleasure of meeting this extraordinary young man on the ferry crossing from Port Aux Basques to North Sydney. He had incredible insight, a generous heart and a beautiful soul. We talked for hours, laughed and kept each other company for the whole trip. We had breakfast in the morning before docking and he shared stories of his life and expressed how much he loved his family, especially his younger brother, who he referred to as the “good one”. He appreciated the small things and was grateful for everything he had. He was adventurous and courageous. God Bless and God Speed Joe. You were one of a kind and will always be remembered. I’ll always remember him going down the road on a shopping cart with a giant smile on his face along with his buddies, being kids and having fun! My sincerest condolences to the entire Hapgood family and to anyone who is effected by the loss of such a wonderful soul. Joe is someone I will always hold close to my heart, my fondest memories of him are when we were so young and innocent. I met Joe at a time in my life where I really needed a friend, and he quickly became that friend. Even at such a young age I was lucky enough to get to know the real Joe and I was able to see just how big of a heart he had! I will always remember all the good times we got to share, I remember one time he surprised me with a wallet he had made completely out of duct tape with a little message inside that read “I <3 you” I was so impressed by it. He knew how to make me feel like I was worth something. Even as we grew older and apart, we would keep in touch every now and then and he would always say if our paths were ever to cross again that he was going to take me for dinner, anywhere I wanted, because I deserved it. He was a kind and caring soul and there is no doubt in my mind that he is watching out for us on the other side. My thoughts and prayers are with you and may Joseph Rest In Peace .

Words fail me every time I try to put such a wonderful life to rest, but I will do my best regardless. Joseph was a man of love and laughter, and his smile could outshine any darkness that came his way. He was a fighter, and he didn’t just fight for himself but for all he loved and cared for. He was always there when I needed a friend, and both of us knew that life was rough and unforgiving, but he always had faith in the good.
