Obituary

Passed peacefully away on September 11, 2016, at age 95.   Kathleen was born in Trinity East, on November 9, 1920 to Conrad Trelawney and Emma (Rideout) Fitz-Gerald.  She was the last surviving member of her family of six, and is predeceased by Conradine, Geraldine, Doreen, Reginald and Conrad.  In 1942, she married Leonard C. R. Earle, with whom she spent 42 very happy years.  She is fondly remembered by her three children:  Catherine Penney (Ronald); Harry (Marion); and Margaret Allan (Gerry).  She leaves with happy memories, her grandchildren: Stephen Penney (Vivian Arenillas); Jennifer Dale (Jonathan); Timothy Earle; Susan Mahen (Chris); Jane Moore (Dennis); Laura, Elizabeth, James and Sarah Earle; Kathleen Allan Roark (Benton); Patricia Allan (Josh Winsor); and Michael Allan; and her great grandchildren Elizabeth and Eva Dale, and Julia and Natalie Moore. Kay (or “Fitz” in her early days) lived her life with a strong focus on her family and a positive outlook.  She enjoyed her work and her friends at the Memorial University Library, where she worked until her retirement in 1986.  Special thanks to the staff of Tiffany Village who provided excellent and loving care in her last months. Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 13th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Carnell’s Funeral Home.   A celebration of Kay’s life will be held at a later date.

Margie and family, I’m so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. When she volunteered for the Newfoundland Historical Society her office was next to mine. I enjoyed our daily chats – she was always a bright light in my day.

I am very sorry to hear of the loss of Mrs. Earle and my sincere condolences go out to all her family. My mother Alberta worked with Mrs. Earle at the MUN library and I remember her kindness, hospitality and great conversation. I know she will be very missed.
