I just learned of Larry’s death. MHA Jordan Brown acknowledged his contribution to placing the final Caribou on the trail of Caribou. I worked with Larry on a challenging file. He was great to work with and, to me, Larry was the ideal civil servant. I know, wherever he is, he is playing at least 36 holes everyday. RIP Larry.

My sincere condolences to Larry’s family on his sudden passing. I worked with Larry for a number of years at TCII. He had a great sense of humour & I know his presence will be greatly missed there. May he rest in peace.

So very saddened to hear this news. Larry and I worked together for 8 years at TCII, and while I moved on in the last 18 months, I often saw him in the early bird club going into the building and we’d wave as I drove by. He always gave that big smile .Larry offered so much to the Dept. over the years and I truly came to know him as a friend . Condolences to all family and friends.

I am beyond shocked and saddened to hear of Larry’s passing. It all seems surreal as I had heard from Larry on Wednesday stating that he was home from the hospital and all was good. He was looking forward to returning to the gym. I enjoyed many a workout with Larry over the past years…..always a laugh. Was like a friends happy hour. He was a true genuine friend. My sympathies are with Heather and the Weatherbie family. My life has been enriched by Larry’s friendship and his presence will forever be missed.

My sincere condolences to Larry’s family. Found memories of our UPEI days, trips to watch the Montreal Canadians, and catching up on the golf course. Larry will be missed.

My deepest condolences to Larry’s family and his friends, both here and in Florida. It was such a shock to us all to hear of his passing. We’ve been work colleagues for 30 years, having met first during the formation of ENL. We got to all know Larry best when he came to work as our Acting Director in Eastern Region. We enjoyed his professional managerial style including saucy banter, and got to know his love of golf and warmer days. Larry was incredibly knowledgeable about all things economic development, and passed on many pieces of advice over the years. When he returned to Corporate office, his was always one of the first offices I’d go to to say hello and get a big bear hug. Every turkey Christmas dinner thereafter Larry would call to make sure the turkey had made it to the oven safely. Larry and I spoke just a couple of weeks ago, sharing news with each other of our new grandchildren. I will dearly miss his friendship and that big exuberant smile of his. Rest peacefully my friend. I’m certain there’s a green up there for you to enjoy..

I was so sorry to hear the sad news. Larry was a gret work colleague and will missed very much. Heather, my thoughts are with you and your family.

Nikki Kavanagh

I am terribly saddened to hear of Larry’s passing. He was a great friend and trusted colleague.

I enjoyed our banter immensely. Our frequent conversations touched on a bit of everything from our PEI/Stanhope connections to politics and from the gym to sports – most notably his love of golf…I always came up short in our friendly wagers over who would win The Masters.

I was so looking forward to hitting the links with him the summer after his long-awaited hip surgery and the ribbing we would give one another over missed putts and missed fairways!

My deepest condolences to Heather and his entire family.

Heather, So sorry to hear of Larry’s sudden passing. I always enjoyed his lively conversation and humor at the social gatherings we shared… Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Heather and Dustin. I sit here in absolute shock. Rob Kelland..one of our early morning gym rats…just gave me the unfathomable news.. An early morning workout at 6:30 was tradition for so long. Larry’s jokes, banter, stories, wisdom and effervescence were part of our culture. His hip was slowing him down yet he pushed though working another body part. Why wouldn’t he..that is Larry’s way!! I know for myself as well as the other souls who worked out with and adjacent to him every morning there will be a time of disbelief and Immense sorrow. Heather..Dustin..words do very little other than to let you know Larry had a large collection of friends who thoroughly enjoyed the early morning banter. We will miss him immensely. Keep all of those great memories close and treasure them always. May Spirit as you so define walk gently by your side, hold your hand and nurture your heart. This is a very sad day. My deepest condolences.

Heather and Dustin,

Larry and I worked together almost 20 years ago. He was one of the finest people I had the pleasure to work along side. He was a true professional. A great friend and one of the province’s most devoted public servants. He was a proud family man and spoke often of his home life while we were travelling together across the province.

He was relied on to handle the most difficult and sensitive projects for the department we worked in and was respected by coworkers everywhere. He has a quiet manner and confidence in his work. We’ve all lost a great friend. So saddened to hear the news today.

I am so sad to learn of Larry’s sudden death. As a Director in the Business, Investment Department, he was a strong, wise and thoughtful support to the executive and Ministers. Since we learned of his passing, numerous staff have noted how much he made a difference in their work and even out side of work lives. Hundreds of messages from staff, clients etc referenced his impact Heather. For me, we shared alot of difficult files of significance in rural Newfoundland, closure of mills, fish plants and mines, and Larry carried these issues with care, compassion and integrity. Larry, you have always supported my efforts, told the truth, and did the right thing. My deepest sympathy to you Heather and your family on the loss of a great and gentle giant. Rita and Bill.

Hi Larry and Family,

It was shocking to hear the unpleasant news least to say, but my thoughts go on to your family, prayers for them for strength in these tough times. They say the sun always rises once the clouds clear, and though one might feel the clouds surround them at times, there is always love and hope on the horizon. Needless to say, will miss our coffee room chats or lunch room check-ins, thanks for always keeping it light, I hope and pray wherever you are …that you rest in peace Sir, much respect.

I am truly sorry to learn of Larry’s passing. I worked with him for the last two years and he was nothing but a true gentleman. He definitely helped me find my place at the office when I first started and he was always good for positive laughs when I needed it. My deepest condolences to your family at this unbelievably tough time.
