Obituary
Liam Walsh, loving husband and proud father, passed peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre on August 18 at the age of 40. Predeceased by grandmother Pauline Young. Leaving with precious memories his wife Angela Rose, children Desmond “Dessy” and Luke “Lukey”; parents Cathy Young and Ted Walsh (Elaine Mitchell), sister Meghan Walsh (Mike Carew), parents-in-law Shirley and Carl Rose, sisters-in-law Donna Douglas (Scott), and Susan Rose; nephews Eamon, Mannix, Euan, Rory and Alex; as well as a large circle of close friends and relatives.
Liam had an enthusiasm for life, an engaging personality, and love of music, especially The Boss. He loved his wife and two boys more than anything. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by so many. Liam truly lived life to the fullest.
Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Monday, August 20 from 1-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Liam’s memory to The Boys and Girls Clubs of St. John’s, or the Rabbittown Community Centre.

I had the good fortune to meet Liam through our work supporting students with disabilities. He was an incredibly intelligent and witty human being, and the world is diminished by his passing.

Cathy, Meghan & family, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Liam’s passing. I first met Liam while volunteering on Jack’s election campaign and remember him showing me the ropes for working on a campaign. He always had a smile on his face and was ready to help in any way possible. Although our paths have not crossed lately, he still carried that passion to help others. He touched the hearts of many without realizing the impact he has had in his short life. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.
Reading of Liam’s passing is heartbreaking. I didnt know him well at university but he still always said ‘hi’ or chatted whenever our paths crossed even years afterwards. Liam was a wonderful boss and we will miss him so much around the office but we have great memories that will stay with us. Angela, I am so sorry to hear about Liam’s passing. Although it’s been years since I rented that basement apartment in Rabbittown from you guys, I will always remember Liam’s kindness and generosity, not to mention his guitar-playing/singing and fantastic storytelling. Liam was always so generous of spirit and was really one of the most entertaining, easy-going, and welcoming people – his stories could not be matched and his love for Newfoundland was evident. My deepest sympathies to Liam’s wife and his boys. I met Liam through work a few years ago, and it was an absolute pleasure to meet up with Liam ever since at our in person meetings. Liam was the life of the party, and was that person everybody wanted to be good friends with. His love of his family, music, and Newfoundland was obvious to me and everyone around him no doubt, especially when Liam and staff hosted folks from across the country not so long ago. Liam will be truly missed, but always remembered.

So sorry to hear of Liam’s passing. Liam was a good buddy during my students’ union days which were the tail end of his student movement days. Liam taught me a lot back then. Liam and a few others showed me the ropes of media relations. Those experiences had a huge impact on my life and I’ve pretty much worked in the communications/media relations world ever since. My heartfelt condolences to you and the boys. Liam was one of a kind and we will certainly miss him at Student Aid. He was such a genuine, caring, compassionate man with such a sense of humour who was a one man show that made us laugh and smile so much. He was a great boss who genuinely cared about his staff. We loved hearing stories about yourself and the boys, he was very proud of his family and thankful for the woman who chose him!!!! Grief is the last act of love that we can give to those we loved. Where there is deep grieve there was great love. May you be comforted by the many wonderful memories you have of Liam.
My contact with Liam was of a professional nature. I am sure the efforts he made to enhance the lives of others on a professional level were a fraction of what he contributed to the lives of his family and friends. I am personnally saddened today and I make these comments on behalf of the many post secondary students he has helped in the past. I wish for his children, family and friends to understand the positive impact he made in the hours he spent away from them.

Liam was a kind and generous person. I got to know him over the last three years through his job with student financial aid. He cared about students and wanted to make sure those that wanted to go to college or university had the financial support to do so. He often spoke to me of his family, his love for his kids and wife, and doing the best he could to show them that they are loved. Everybody that knew him loved him. He was one of a kind and he will be missed. My sincere condolences to his family.
