Obituary

For those of us who have had the privilege of knowing Mary it is with great sorrow to announce her passing on November 16, 2018.  For the last few months she has been battling cancer as she has lived her life, on her own terms.  Those of us close to her consider ourselves blessed to have had her in our lives.  Her kindness and wit have enriched us all and made us better for it.

Mary was born in the Dominion of Newfoundland in 1937 to Robert Inkpen Hollett and Ruby Hollett of Great Burin.  She worked with her father, a manager at Bonavista Cold Storage, as his assistant; as an RCMP Second Man with her husband during many of his postings; as a Mother; and as a statistician with Fishery Products.

Predeceased by her husband Donald Hugh McDonald, RCMP Retd. (2016), her sister Jean Bowden Hollett (1981), and her brother Hugh MacDougall Hollett (2018).  Survived by her daughter Dawn McDonald, of St. John’s, her brother Malcolm Winston Hollett of Burin, her niece Heidi Kinnear (daughter of Hugh) of Merlin, ON. and many cherished family and friends.

Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Monday, November 19 from 10 – 11 a.m. Funeral service will be held at The Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 19 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Mary’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. To send a message of condolence please visit www.carnells.com
