Obituary

Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre after a brief battle with cancer on August 4, 2018 at the age of 76.  Predeceased by his parents Norman and Jessica Donovan; brother Ron, and sister Margie.  Leaving to mourn Nina, his loving and devoted wife of 47 years; his daughter (“his pride and joy”), Michelle and husband Brian O’Gay of Barrie; grandkids Brandon and Kaitlyn; sister Barbara Tapper (Kevin) of Milton; brother Ed (Bet); sister-in-law Mary Kennedy; brother-in-law Mike Ryan; many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a wealth of cherished friends.

Special thanks to Dr. Morkar, the attending staff at the Health Sciences Centre, and long-time family physician Dr. Peter Noel.  Thanks also offered to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 where Mike was a life member.

Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-9 p.m.  Funeral mass to take place at Mary Queen of the World Church on Topsail Road on Thursday, August 9 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Mrs Donovan, so sorry to hear of Mikes passing.
I knew Mike and the boys from the mess at the base. His was a great person and we had a lot of laughs at 4pm at the mess. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Don and Scott and family – so sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. Haven’t seen you in so many years but have some fond memories of your Dad when we were kids. RIP.

So very sad to hear of Mr. D’s passing, I have know him for 30 years while working with Sobeys and we always had such great chats. A true Gehtleman, so very sorry for your loss.

Hi I’m sorry to hear of mikes passing. I met mike at the legion at branch 56 where like myself Was a member. I enjoyed his conversations over a cold beer numerous times . he was a good and honest person. “may he Rest In Peace”.

Nina: I am still in disbelief over the news of Mike’s passing. Our sincere condolences go out to you, Michelle, Brian and the children, Mike’s sons, and his brother and sister. He was a wonderful kind hearted man as evidenced by his years of volunteering at the Legion. I know he is with his buddies, Art and Bas, and I will have a beer for him at the Legion. We are so so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. He was such a wonderful and dear friend to Dad, Lorna and the family. There was probably no better man on earth. We are grateful to have been part of Mike’s very full life. He loved and was loved so completely. He will never be forgotten and we will always be here for all of you.
