Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother, Philip Bruce Parsons.

Bruce passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021, at his home in St John’s at 60 years of age. He will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Leaving to mourn are his brothers Albert (Beth), Freeman (Sandra), and Fraser (Heather); Aunt Gladys; nephews Curtis, Reynard, Brandon, Justin, Sheldon, Geoffrey, Mark and Adam; nieces Julie, Joanne and Monica; numerous great nephews, great nieces, cousins, and a large circle of extended family and friends.

Predeceased by his brother Edmund; parents George and Mae; and partner of many years Rick.

Bruce started his career at Syncrude Canada in Fort McMurray when he decided to move back to Newfoundland. He worked at various jobs until he was hired at the Come By Chance Refinery where he remained until he suffered a stroke. He had a miraculous recovery but his short-term memory was severely impacted. With the help of family and friends he was able to remain in his home living independently.

Along with travel, spending time with family and friends telling stories he enjoyed a good laugh, a coffee and any kind of dessert. One of the things he missed most when he no longer worked was his coworkers at the refinery. He was a proud Newfoundlander and would never turn down an opportunity to show visitors what his city and province had to offer.

Special thanks from all of the family to Jean and Brian for years of caring and compassion. Thanks to the United Steelworkers Local 9316, North Atlantic Refinery, members and Union President Glenn Nolan.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory gratefully accepted by the Heart and Stroke Foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca/how-you-can-help/ways-to-give.

I just heard of Bruce’s passing while home visiting with my mom in Swift Current. Bruce was always a good friend when we were growing up in school. He was always making me laugh. Whenever he visited home and saw mom he asked my mom how I was. Thinking of you all as you go through this loss.

Albert, Freeman, Fraser & families,
So sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing, I remember him always being so proud to visit my mom, he called me the young one, as I was the baby in the family. At mom’s 80th birthday celebration, he was very excited to tell me about all of you, he wanted me to know about our family. He was always very kind, he loved Aunt Mae and Uncle George beyond words. I’m sure there are many beautiful memories to cherish. Thinking of you all.

To Bruce’s family and close friends, I am so very saddened and shocked to hear of his passing. Bruce and I were the best of friends for many years. I could never have known a nicer person. He was a true friend, just like the brother I never had. He will be forever missed, and forever in my heart.

To the Family of the late Bruce Parsons.
