Peter and family,
Please accept our condolences on the passing of your dad. May his soul rest in peace.

The Hopkins family will never forget the kindness that your parents showed to our son Rob in 1980. We had a house fire and were literally homeless for two months bunking with friends and family . A very stressful time in our lives. They took Rob in to stay with you until we had our home back again. They did not know us but knew Rob through you.. They were kind and generous people. Belated thanks to a kind and generous couple. May memories like this help with your grief.

To Dave , Karen , Stephanie , Jennifer and Stephen , and to the Hatcher Family . We had never met your father , grandfather , but through your stories about him over the past few years we felt as if we did know him . We know he loved to play crib and bingo among other things we have learned about him . We know you will miss him but we are sure we will hear his name mentioned in even more stories now . May his legacy live on in your hearts and in your lives . Brian and Dianne Bartlett

Dear Hatcher Family,
Hi! My mother Theresa Burke Arsenault is especially thinking about you all ,as she has fond memories of her childhood spent with your Dad on Ramea Island. My mother went to school with your dad Rod in Ramea. We are currently making plans for Mom to attend the Ramea 10 year celebration reunion this August . My mother Theresa normally holds the flag in the parade. I also remember your mother Sadie who was a connoisseur in baking buns and delicious pork cakes served with hot tea. I was very fortunate to get in on the Lunch menu . Rod and Sadie both held special places in my mother’s memories, dear friends who always made us very welcome in their Newfoundland home. My Aunt MaryRose Tucker always made sure that we got to visit your Ramea parents. I dearly Love the Newfoundland culture and customs. I gravitate toward the Newfoundland people I meet in Calgary who are extra specially friendly. Sincerely, Edwina Arsenault

Our sincere sympathy on the loss of your father.
He always had a story, a twinkle in his eye and loved a game of crib with my Dad.

To the Hatcher Family:
So sorry for the loss of your Dad. When we were students many years ago we lived in Hillview Terrace and your Mom and Dad were our Superintendents. For two young kids from around the Bay your Mom and Dad were like our grandparents always showing genuine care and concern for us. Your Dad always singing and friendly scolding us for walking on the freshly mopped floors and stairs. He must be happy to be reunited with your Mom. Please find strength in each other and in your memories.

So sorry for your loss. I have many memories of playing crib and consider the day Addie and I beat Lloyd and him in our tournament as one of my greatest delights. He kept pride in our school as a high ideal.

Paul, Gail and the Hatcher Family,

I am truly sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I will remember him as a hard working family man who loved a lively debate over a cup of tea. Finally reunited with your mother, I’m sure he is at peace.

Reading your dad’s obituary brought back a flood of memories of your family growing up next door. Your mom singing as she hung out her clothes, your dad with the hammer always busy , the boys coming over to get their hair cut , and of course in our leaky old school Rod strategically putting buckets around the classrooms. Those were good days. Keeping you close in thought . Treasure your memories and look after each other. Hugs.

So sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Sincere condolences to you all and your families as well. Spent many a hour with this crib player. A fine gentleman. God Bless you all.

My sincere condolences to all the family on Rod’s passing. May you all have strength in your memories of him.

I had the pleasure of working summer maintenance at St. Boniface with Rod when I was a student. Along with Harold and his brother Angus there are enough memories and laughs during that time to last me a lifetime. He could be cross as heck if we stepped out of line… but 99% of the time he was the most entertaining and hilarious man I ever had the pleasure of working with. A good man with an opinion about everything and never shy to share. I will remember him very fondly. Godspeed Rod…
