Obituary
In the early morning of June 20, 2018 Sam Roberts joined our Father in his heavenly home. Left with cherished memories, his wife Joan; children: Sam (Cynthia) Roberts, Gail (David) Read and Darrell (Michele) Roberts; grandchildren: Bethany Roberts, Sam Roberts, Alexander Read, Hayley Read, Amanda Read, Darrell Roberts, Sarah Roberts, William Read and Caleb Roberts; brothers and sisters: Steve Roberts, Bert (Maude) Roberts, Joan Crane, Joyce (Ron) Churchill, Wilson (Tony) Roberts and Sue (Ross) Peddle; sisters-in-law: Emily, Mary and Emmie Roberts as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members.
Sam was born in Spaniards Bay on March 11, 1937 to Samuel and Marion Roberts. Sam and Joan moved to St. John’s on their wedding night, August 6, 1960 and went on to build a successful business and loving family. Sam was an active member of Masonic Lodge St. Andrews, Mazol Shriners, and a dedicated parishioner at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church. He is predeceased by his parents; sister: Elizabeth; and brothers: John, George and Clayton. Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and doctors in HSC 5 South B Neurosurgery. Family and friends will be received at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday, June 21 from 7 – 9 pm and Friday, June 22 from 10 am – 12 pm and 2:30 – 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church on Saturday, June 23 at 11 am.

But I saw Sam quite often at the business on Kenmount road for sand etc. for my DIY projects. He was always so helpful with a smile.

My Dad ( Joe Smith), worked for Sam most of his life and I believe considered him as not just his boss, but a true friend. Yvonne and I are deeply saddened by Sam’s passing and sorry we can’t be there at this time. He was a good friend, as well as being my first cousin. He was well liked by everyone as we were growing up and had a unique way of getting along with all. Yvonne nor I can’t remember seeing him “angry” with anyone as he had a such a kind demeanour .

I have many many fond memories over my lifetime of camping, fishing, hunting, jigging fish off Bell Island, Ice fishing up da gullies, Christmas parties at the New Moon then back to his house and of course May 24 in the cookhouse.
