Myra,
Our condolences to you and your family. We have fond memories of Walter during our many trips to Bell Island in the 1980s and 1990s. My father, Gordon, very much enjoyed his chats with Walter. We missed seeing him after his retirement. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Myra we were so saddened to hear of Skipper Walts passing. We have many fond memories of spending time at your house in Greenspond as well as the the many trips to Bell Island were all a pleasure to hear Walt tell stories. The kids have some great memories when hey would visit him on the bridge and he would let them steer the boat. Take care. Patsy and Brian Tremblett.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. May loving memories bring you peace, comfort and strength.. With love and remembrance….
Kim (Val’s Sister) and Mike Larose, Victoria BC

Aunt Myra, Annie, Frank, Patsy, Wayne, Pearl and families, please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of a wonderful uncle. The Friday night phone calls have become less frequent in the last little while, but we always looked forward to that phone to ring right after the NTV news hour birthdays and anniversaries. Sorry we can’t be there with you all to celebrate his life, but please know each and every one of you are in our thoughts and prayers. RIP Uncle Walt we know you’re sailing on the ships of heaven. Big hugs to Aunt Myra

Aunt Myra, Annie, Frank,Patsy, Wayne,Pearl and families. We were saddened to hear of Uncle Walt’s passing. Uncle Walt always appeared distinguished looking and well-groomed with a twinkle in his eye and a perpetual smile. Treasure the memories and may they comfort you in the days ahead. Due to sickness we are unable to be with you at this time. With our deepest condolences, Glenn and Edith

My most sincerest condolences to Walt’s wife and family. While I did not have the privilege to get to know him well or call him friend but my many interactions with him on the Bell Island ferry system would tell me it would have been a real privilege. He was such a professional, outgoing, respectful and friendly servant of the public. All who passed by would get that endearing smile evident on his obit picture along with a nod and a friendly comment.. Every once in awhile, I was fortunate to have slightly more extended conversation and every time I walked away feeling better.
He was a gentleman who somehow exuded respect and friendliness.
Rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Mr Strattons’ passing. Hope you find comfort in the happy memories with your Husband/Dad. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

I grew up thinking Walt was my Uncle. I bugged him Daily to let me drive the boats. He let me in the wheelhouse and taught me all the different controls and let me take the wheel. Those were the best memories I have as a boy. As I grew older I still bugged him and hung out in the wheelhouse. I would go back n fourth all day long with him haha. He was so plesent and thrilled to spend that time with me. Such a Great Man. You will never be forgotten Uncle Walt. Thank you for all those memories and you were the best Capn’ ever. Rip Walt

Saddened by the news of Walter’s passing, no better neighbor and friend to be found in this world. Always quick with a wave, a wink and a smile, & the first to lend a hand. I’ll miss our chats over a cup of tea and Myra’s cookies.

Thinking of you all.

John,

So sorry to hear of your fathers passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family.
