Obituary

Winnie entered into eternal rest, the last-surviving child of Robert (Bobby) George and Lilla Chafe. Gone to join her husband of 62 years, Gordon; brothers: Roy, Eric (Ed), Ralph, Howard, Ches and Max; also, sisters: Elsie Guest and Mabel Care; infant son Bobby Long and Daughter in law Dorothy. Left to remember her loving and joyous years are her children: Barbara (Bill) Richards, Douglas (Lisa), Janice, David (Wanda), Donna (Gary) Evans, and Darren (Kelly). Thirteen grandchildren: Sean (Bonita) Clancey, Cheryl (Glenn) Blake, Susan (Jonathan) Duxbury, Bob (Kim Pretty), Steven, Michael (Laura) and Julia Long, Sara (Mike) Altvator, Aaron (Charles) Long, Caroline (Justin) Downey and Kerrilyn Evans, and Kristen and Jessie Long; eight beautiful great-grandchildren Lauryn and Alyson McKinley, Peydon and Lexi Duxbury, Matthew and Emelia Long, and Henry and Annie Mae Altvator. Also, many good friends, sisters in law, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her nieces Christine Care and Linda Penney. The family would also like to thank the staff of Glenbrook Lodge for their care and compassion. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday September 18 and Wednesday September 19 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to be held from St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Westerland Road on Thursday September 20 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Interment to take place Friday, Sept 21 at 11:00 a.m. Anglican Cemetery Forest Road. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Winnie’s memory to the Wish Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association, NL Chapter.

So sorry to hear this, thoughts and prayers are with her family at this heartbreaking time in their lives. Winnie and mom were close, she kept in contact with me since mom was gone. R.I.P sweet lady, hugs to you all!

Doug, Barbara, David, Janice, Donna, Darren and all the cousins I’ve yet to meet, I am terribly sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts, through us, they live on. May her soul rest in peace, I believe that God will accept her with open arms for all the good she has done while she was on this earth.

I’m so sorry to hear of Mrs. Long’s passing, I worked with her many years ago at Reitman’s in the Avalon Mall. She was a pleasure to work with, always had a kind word and a smile, well liked by all staff. My condolences on your loss. God Bless
