Wornetta "Neta" Lydia Marie Luscombe

April 30, 2017

Obituary

Passed away peacefully in the company of her loving family on Sunday, April 30, 2017 after a very brief stay at the Palliative Care Unit, L.A. Miller Centre, Wornetta “Neta” Lydia Marie Luscombe (nee Dinney) aged 93 years. Neta was predeceased by her husband, Hubert, son, Melvin (Theresa), and siblings, Minnie Snow (Gordon); John (Minnie); Cleo (Rowena); Jessie Legge (Isaac); Eliza Foote (Stanley); Warrick (Kay); Lucy Granter (Fred); and Ruth Chapel (George). Leaving to mourn with precious memories are her children: Lucy; Janice Smith (Willis); Ivan (Roseanne); Sandra (Richard Gosse); grandchildren: Dwayne and Lori; Dean, Suzanne and Jonathan; Trevor, Troy and Trista; and Lauren, Andrew and Daniel; her sister, Ruby Baker (Sam), 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Born in Pilley’s Island and raised in Deer Lake, Neta moved to Stephenville to work with Bannikin’s and there met and married Bert in 1945. Together until his passing in 2001, they raised their family in Stephenville and opened their home to so many others: housing various friends and relations, and visiting teachers. After a flood relocated her neighborhood in 2005, Neta joined Sandra and Richard in St. John’s, where for more than a decade they enjoyed her quick wit, remarkable memories, passion for good coffee and better chocolate, and loving attention each and every day. Her company and care will be sorely missed.

Special thanks to dedicated home care giver Lisa Parsons, and to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Ross Family Medical Clinic, St. Clare’s Hospital and at the L.A. Miller Centre. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Rd. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral Service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Stephenville on Friday May 5 at 2:00 p.m. Neta spent a lifetime caring for and feeding everyone she met. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bridges to Hope Food Aid Centre and Community Kitchen or to your local food bank.

Dear Lucy, Janice, Ivan, Sandra and your families:
I have been thinking of Neta ever since I knew she was in the hospital. Have precious memories tucked away in my heart of myself and Lucy and her and Bert, and always will. We never ever had a family feud, always had lots to eat at their home, lots of fun, sitting around the meal table, many berry picking ventures., rides in the camper, etc., etc. What treasured times! Yesterday and today I am looking at greeting cards that she sent us over the years. Her famous words along with her signature were always, “have a good one”. The kindness and generosity shown my family by her and Uncle Bert will always be remembered. I now have so many cherished memories here on this earth. I also have a peace in my heart knowing that I will see her again in Heaven. Love to all. Uncle Fred

We wish to extend our most sincere condolences to you and your loving family

Dear Lucy, Janice, Ivan, Sandra and family,
I am saddened to hear of Aunt Neta,s passing. Her wry smile will always be remembered as well as her dry wit. I always enjoyed my visits with the family in Stephenville as well as in Corner Brook. May you find peace and comfort in your memories and in your assurance of the love she had for all of you.
With love,
Your cousin,
Brian & Teresa

My deepest condolences Sandra on the loss of your Mom.

All Aunt Netas Family- What sweet memories we have of your mom and grandmother! Larry often speaks of visiting with the family as a young boy and dropping in for a lunch & chat when working in Stephenville Area in later years, and both of us dropping in to visit many times over the years before she moved to St. John’s.. It was always a pleasure and brings smiles to think of her. Larry and Nancy Luscombe

To all of Mrs. Luscombe’s family and dear friends. She became a part of our family when Sandra married Richard and we loved her as soon as we met her. She always had an amazing sense of humor and a beautiful presence that she made you feel so good when you were with her. What wonderful memories you and we all have with Mrs. Luscombe (your Mom, Grandmother, Aunt, friend), you can truly say when you walked away, you felt like you were totally present with this fair lady.
With much love and affection, our sincere sympathy. Cathy, John and Family

Extending deepest sympathy to the Luscombe family. Your Mom was a kind, sweet lady . We will always remember how showed this to our son Jeremy when he was little. Whenever he visited his grandparents at their cabin at Little Port Harmon, he had to visit your Mom for a cookie treat. Her cookies were always special.
We know she has joined the angels. God Bless.
