GOSSE, Elizabeth Ann (Betty), RN – It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Gosse at the Health Sciences Centre on November 12th, 2021 at the age of 76 years. Betty was a compassionate retired Registered Nurse from the Grace Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1966. Predeceased by her parents Eli & Annie Clarke, brother Fred Clarke; parents-in-law Martin & Marjorie Gosse, as well as many lost family members that are too numerous to list. Leaving to mourn her loving husband of 55 wonderful years Calvert (Cal), daughter Wanda Lawlor, son Dwayne Gosse, and son-in law Steve Lawlor. Also, her brother Wallace Clarke (Georgina), sister-in-law Marion Clarke, and a long list of loving extended family.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and medical team at the Health Sciences Centre, 4 South A, for their above and beyond compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Monday, November 15th; 10am-12pm (Family Only) and 2pm-9pm. Cremation to follow. A funeral service will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, November 17th at 1pm.
The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend. To view the service, please re-visit this obituary prior to 1pm the day of the funeral to find the link.
A burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the Family requests donations to be made in Betty’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
I am so shocked & saddened at the passing of my beautiful cousin & friend. RIP lovely lady. Prayers & thoughts to your family. You will be sadly missed.

It is hard to find the words to express my sorrow for your loss and I wish I could be there to say this in person. A light was always shining when Betty was in the room. That light still shines bright in each of you that truly carry her memory on. My heart is with you and will always be with Betty.

I am saddened today to learn of Betty/ your Mom’s passing. She was my first nursing manager on Urology unit at the Grace. when I graduated in 85 and always held a special place in my heart. She combined her professionalism and nursing skill with kindness and a motherly concern for us greenhorns that turned into lasting friendship as our careers took us in different directions. She remained interested in our lives and always keen to share our weddings, births , and other milestones. I am truly sorry for you loss and trust your happiest memories will keep her love close

Dear Cal and family. I know your hearts are broken at Betty’s death. Growing up together in St. Phillip’ she was one of my dearest friends, as well as her brother Freddie. I loved her parents. They were so kind to me. I enjoyed many a treat from Clarke’s store. Betty was always a dear, kind and gentle person. When we were still children I stood close to her, comforting her as her father’s body was lowered into the ground and she was devastated. Many years later Betty did me the honour of preaching at her mother’s funeral. She will always have a very special place in my heart. Please know and believe she is only gone from your sight not from life. She is now living with loved ones gone before in God’s nearer presence. One day, by God’s good grace you will meet again. We send you our very best wishes as you learn to live without her God bless you all. Wallace, I know how hard it is to lose a sister. We are thinking of you and Georgie. I was so deeply saddened to hear of Betty’s passing. Betty was my room mate for some of our training years. We shared many memories together. I always admired her amazing devotion and her unending fortitude to do the right thing for her patients. She never said an unkind word to or about anyone.
