To Berdie’s family: So sorry for your loss. She was a good friend of my Mother’s (Olive). They had lovely visits and phone chats. Mom remembers her as a lovely, kind person, who would go the extra mile for anyone. Cherish the memories.

My heartfelt condolences to Berdina’s close-knit family and friends. Berdina would have been first cousin to my father, Calvin Sheppard. Our families grew up far apart — mine in Manitoba, and I later moved to Quebec.
In 2014, my brother Chesley and I travelled to Newfoundland with our spouses and met several wonderful relatives, including Berdina. There was an instant connection. She was warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable, and graciously showed us around the Spaniard’s Bay area.
She left me with many fond memories that I will always cherish.
Please know you are in my thoughts.

Sending sincere condolences to Berdie’s family. I was indeed saddened to hear of her passing. She was a very friendly and kind lady. Over the past recent years before she moved into a retirement home, we would keep in touch via phone calls. It was always a pleasant chat. I (Gary Moulton) was one of her cousins from Tilton. A few years ago she gave me a few photos of my family members that she held onto for decades. One was of my parent’s marriage on Jan. 10, 1944. I had no idea it existed and was very happy to receive it. May your dear Mom rest peacefully in her eternal home. I’m certain she will be missed . I hope you all find comfort in your cherished memories.

Sincere condolences to the Gosse family on the passing of a dear , lovely lady. I had the pleasure of knowing Berdie and spending time with her as joint members of the Spaniard’s Bay Heritage Society of which she was a lifelong supporter. She provided us with valuable archival photographs and information that Wesley had researched and collected over the years and was always a constant source of encouragement and support.
. I visited her several times at her home where she was always prepared with a cup of tea and a “little lunch” while we shared easy, enjoyable conversation.
Although I had not seen her for the past several years she will be remembered as a warm, caring person full of goodwill for her friends and community.
Her love for her family ( of whom she spoke often, especially the grandchildren) was clearly evident and her energy boundless!
Rest in peace dear Birdie .Dianne ( Vokey ) Carr

So very sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. She was a lovely person and I know you’ll miss her.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of a very special teacher who meant more to me than words can express. From Grades 10–12, she wasn’t just my teacher — she was my tutor, my mentor, and someone who truly changed the course of my life.

Every day after school, I would take the bus to Spaniards Bay to her home, where learning never felt like a chore. She always greeted me with warmth, kindness, and the most incredible chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven. Those afternoons were about so much more than schoolwork — they were about encouragement, patience, and believing in someone when it mattered most.

I truly believe everyone has that one teacher who makes a difference. She was mine. Without her guidance, love, and unwavering support, I can honestly say I would not be the person I am today. Her impact will stay with me forever.

Sending my deepest condolences to her three boys, Jeff, Darryl, and Paul. Your mother’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, including mine. She will never be forgotten.

So sorry to hear of your loss, she was always kind and friendly to us at Westbury. She is missed!

Paul, Darryl, and Geoff. So sorry for your loss….I had the pleasure over the past two or three years to quite often chat with your mom at Westbury as we performed music for the seniors group. She was soooo proud of all her family and connected me so much with Spaniard’s Bay which drew back so many memories of our days, primarily with you Paul, at the frog pond and riding on your dirt bike. Mrs Gosse always treated me with so much kindness in those days and at Westbury she was so thrilled to interact and come up to me at the end of our music session and chat about her boys who she repeatedly said she was so proud of. Remember all the happy times and I will miss her at the next Westbury event.
