Obituary

Mrs. Agnes Greene (née Whelan) passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family on January 19, 2018, aged 88 years. Aggie was predeceased by her husband Rupert Greene, her parents Captain John and Marcella Whelan, and her brothers Dr. Patrick Whelan and Fr. John Whelan, S.J.

Leaving to mourn Aggie are her loving family: daughter Marcy (David Feder) and son Gerry (Marilyn); grandchildren Gerard (Laura) and Paddy (Alexa); siblings Mary (Carmen Rockwell, deceased), George Whelan (Gloria), Dr. Ron Whelan (Betty Lou) and sister-in-law Marie Whelan. Aggie had a great many nieces, nephews and cousins who will always remember her laughter and delight in life.

Aggie was kind and generous in her well-lived life. She cherished her 70-year friendship with her club and bridge ladies and the fellowship of her special neighbors on Shea Street. She was a woman of grace, generosity and deep faith who volunteered with St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit. She was devoted to the Darjeeling Mission in India, which her brother administered as a Jesuit priest. All who knew Aggie loved her deeply for her kind spirit as well as her love of music and parties; we will treasure our many happy memories of her.

Special thanks for the professional care, kindness and support provided by staff of the Agnes Pratt Home and also of Cambridge Estates. Visitation will be at Carnell’s Funeral Home, Freshwater Road on Sunday, January 21 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Pius X Church on Monday, January 22 at 9:30 a.m. with an interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Topsail Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Agnes Greene’s memory may be made to St. Pius X Church, Smithville Crescent or to The Agnes Pratt Home Foundation, Topsail Road.

So sorry to hear of your loss, Marcy. Your mother was such a spirited lady.

Marcy,
On this Valentine’s Day, Ash Wednesday, 2018,
I am thinking of you.
I’m sad to hear about the loss of your mom.
My memories of your Mom make me smile,
as she continually did herself…..
from St. Patrick’s Mercy Home to
St. Pius X Auxiliary to
Ladies Tea …not to mention
St. Pius X Choir, St. Pius X Church and
sleep overs .(memories of Dad )
ALWAYS smiling with her quick wit.
Like mother like daughter.
Squeezes to you and Gerry both,

Peace
Mairin O’Leary Hitsman

Marcie and Gerry. So sorry to hear of your moms passing. She was such a kind and loving lady. Loved visiting your parents on shea st

Marilyn, Gerry and family, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Aggie. Although I have never met Aggie I have heard so many wonderful things about her over the years working with Marilyn, she sure sounds like a very special and wonderful person. Losing a loved on is never easy but take comfort in knowing the are gone home and watching over you all here on earth each and every day until the day comes you will all be reunited again. A mother will never leave her child, although they may be different places sometimes.

An Angel whispered
take my hand and
come with me
your work here is done.

I went away to a place
where there’s no tears, nor sorrow
only laughter and smiles,
there will always be a Tomorrow.

As I move amongst the clouds.
I’ll look down and smile upon you,
while the angels
sing a heavenly song.

I am not alone
all who went before
are here
they awaited my return.

I know you’ll grieve
and wish I was still here
I am here in the memories
you hold dear.

Remember how much I
love you
and know I took your
love with me.

I did not wish for
you to cry, nor feel sad.
My pain is gone and
I am Free!

Soon you’ll come to me
until then
God will be with you
Just as He’s with me.
